Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
Ok so doctor gave me Phentermine, it works, it surpresses your appetite but it also has a mad amount of caffeine in it, it makes you shaky, jittery, all that fun stuff you never want. Dont get me wrong, the first time I tried it, i lost about 14lbs in two weeks which was great but it surpresses your appaetite so much that you never ever want to eat and there came a point where I was looking at this food and I just wanted to eat it and I would get mad because I wasnt hungry. They actually made me really stressed out, I would get angry over the smallest thing, so I have started taking half a tablet, that is better, im still a little jittery but not half as much. I went to a cost plus nutrition and he gave me something else to try and that was worse I think and I only took one, I was practically bouncing off the walls. I dont like the caffeine feeling, I just need something to surpress hunger, so I am not hungry all the time. job is not very active so I get bored and eat out of boredom alot of the time, which I know is a terrible habit. So is there any pills out there that surpress hunger without the mental caffeine feeling or should I just try and go it alone with no medication?

If you eat the right foods you will be able to eat enough that you won't be hungry all the time. I am not a fan of diet pills because you aren't fixing the problem, you are just hiding it. Then when you go off the pills you go right back to the same habits that got you overweight to begin with. Plus there are the dangers of future side effects involved with the pills.
If you can learn how to eat correctly and lose weight that way, you will be set because you can maintain that.

Consider getting a new Doctor.
A doctor that prescribes Fat burners or Appetite suppressants, in opinion, is potentially either being paid by companies to prescribe crap, or a poor Doctor.
Weight loss pills should not be sold or prescribed to anyone anwhere in the world. Herbal ones are crap, Chemical ones are lethal in some cases. You can always go onto Medicinenet and read about the Hydroxycut related deaths last year.
Stop taking those things and you'll have a better chance of losing weight, mostly from Fat and keeping it off

Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
I've tried just about all the diet pills you can imagine...I used to be with a very abusive boyfriend, and even though I was considered underweight for height, he would call me fat (we broke up, thank god!) Anyway, I tried many pills, and the side effects were the same. Taken over a long period of time, they can actually slow down your metabolism and make you gain weight faster once you stop taking them. They can also be veeeerrry dangerous! The best advice I can give you is to stop taking them immediately, and I also agree that you should look for a different doctor! However, your last sentence about going it alone...DONT! I'm glad you joined the website and posted in the forum. Just know that you've got tons of support from people here that are just like you. Work hard with diet and exercise and youll see the pounds come off...youve got a great life ahead of you, dont risk it by taking the pills!

The other thing to keep in mind is that if youre feeling hungry a lot of the time, there are a few things you can do! First, make sure you're drinking plenty of water. You should be getting at least 64oz/day, more if youre active. The more water you drink, the more full you will feel. Your stomach is only the size of your fist, so you should feel comfortable after eating a small meal. Try eating 4-5 small meals each day, rather than 2-3 bigger ones. Make sure each meal has a good balance of protein, complex carbs and fruits/vegetables. This will help keep your energy level up and your hunger down. Also, if you tend to snack, try chewing gum to keep yourself from eating when youre not actually hungry. Often times, you misread your body's cues....when you think youre hungry, drink a glass of water and wait 10 minutes. If you're still hungry, then eat. If not, you were just thirsty! Good luck

I'm genuinely sorry you had to go through what you went through Kirsten, as well as having to make the realisations about pills after so many times. It is abundently clear you deserved better in your earlier years.
You really do look so healthy and glowing now though, so that's wonderful to see, as are the kind and intelligent sentiments you posted above. I agree whole-heartedly with what you said and would urge anybody reading, to use your advice and example, as a way of avoiding the trap of weight loss products.
I hope you continue to get positive and long-lasting results from your improved lifestyle ad BIG WELL DONE, for having the courage to talk about one or two difficult things in your life. I never see pity in such words, but always great beauty from the strength needed to write them.
You should be vey proud of what you wrote. I imagine it can't always be easy to do that, when it reminds you of negative things.
I hope we as community can continue for the forseeable future, to benefit from your wisdom, kindness and immense grace, but if for whatever reasons you can't we will understnad.
Either way good luck and best wishes to you always.

Hi,
I have had share of diet pills and just recently, back in December was prescribed Phentermine. Well to make a long story short, I am on antidepressants Zoloft and Wellbutrin for Anxiety and depression.....Well the Lady that prescribed them to me told me that they would affect antidepressants...She actually gave them to me knowing that I was on these things...I didnt think much of it I knew I would have to be careful because of anxiety anyways...Well after trying to take them for a week straight I started having MAJOR anxiety and getting reallly depressed...I was really shaky and moody...What it was doing was counteractinng Antidepressants....................Sucks...needless to say Im scared of any diet pill...I also too xenedrine back about 10 years ago and had a seizure like episode from that....so I am just out and out scared of them now.....
Gotta learn to do it the Healthy way......

Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
I cannot believe these Pills are even prescribed. That's like saying they are in some cases, some kind of viable medical modality. I could never agree with Diet pills and certainly prescribing them as if they're some sort of curative medicine is just crass.
It make me wonder if the next thing people will start prescribing, is small bottles of Wine, for things like Heart disease, with "how to take", directions stuck on, rather than even advocate the Grapes instead, which come without the extra calories and undesirable fermented byproducts.
Medicine is a wonderful thing, especially if the benefits of manufacturing certain products, from both a medicinal and financial standpoint, shifts benefit more favourably, towards people involved in the scenario, that aren't the "patient"

Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
I must admit I was a little dissapointed by all the responses I got on here regarding weight loss pills. If they were that bad they wouldnt be prescribed. doctor is a very good doctor and Phentermine is for clinically obese people. According to the BMI calculators I am obese because I am overweight yet I am also only 5ft tall so any weight on me looks worse than it does on the average person. I have taken phentermine before and I lost alot of weight, faster than any diet or excercise has ever done for me. When you live in a society where there is so much pressure to look a certain way and skinny healthy people make you feel like your not worth a damn because your a little overweight, there is a huge market for weight loss help in the form of medication. I was asking for opinions on the medication. As for them making you depressed, I would not know about that myself but every drug has a side effect (including anti-depressants might I add, which one of their side effects are being depressed???go figure) I cannot speak for any side effects other than slight dry mouth which only led me to drinking more water which was a good thing anyway, I was already on Zoloft because I was overweight and was becoming very depressed about weight and knowing that no matter how much rabbit food and leaves I ate and no good food, I could not shift the weight. Going to the gym to be surrounded by skinny people giving me dirty looks and turning their nose up at me because I was actually breaking a sweat simply made me more depressed. Like I said, I was just getting an opinion. I find it interesting that there are so many people against the drugs that are so ready to buy on the market including in so called "health stores" such as GNC and Cost Plus Nutrition where they encourage you to buy them, I know obviously they are on commission but either way they are they are there to help you. Sometimes you need that extra push and I think that in moderation and with obvious continual rabbit food and leaf eating and exercising it gives you that motivation to lose the weight twice as fast as the average person
Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
I totally know where you are coming from...Ive taken them several times...I was just stating opinion on how they were with other meds..I cant afford to get depressed being I suffer from Panic attacks....and Phentermine definitly isnt good for those being it speeds your heart rate up....Also, I am a recovered anorexic and bulimic and diet pills are what got me started like that in the first place...I am just trying the healthy approach for the first time in life and I think it will be the best thing for me...samlondon wrote:I must admit I was a little dissapointed by all the responses I got on here regarding weight loss pills. Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
You asked for opinions you got it. I don’t think people in here trying bash about anything but because they took their time giving you genuine opinions that they for one have experience with it.
Have you seen people in “BIGGEST LOSER” Now, they are obese! You friend are a bit off but honestly you can do it… It’s hard work! You don’t always have to eat rabbit food you know, you can have decent food that are healthy for you. What’s the use of taking diet pills and you eat junk food? Useless, waste of time and money. What’s the use of eating healthy food and exercise? Good health and looking fit.
I used to think places like GNC are good places but until I started doing own research and educating myself about supplements and food stuff… man those people are just trying to sell… they are like care sales men!
I know what you mean about being overweight. I visit friends in L.A often and goodness I must say everybody looks like a Barbie doll. It’s like every corner you see beautiful long legs wearing expensive clothing! They are so materialist they don’t care about their health. They don’t eat but they pay tons of money for trendy diet pills and plastic surgery! I guess that's why they call it Hollywood…
I don’t need pills or any material stuff to keep me motivated. progress and hard work gives me motivation and if I ever fall… I have a supportive people to keep me positive and keep on pushing.
I know this will sounds a bit corny… I saw your picture… You are BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Believe in yourself, believe you have the power and NOT depend on stuff that may and can harm you… maybe not now but later.
I’ve been slap left and right even rejected because of how I look and gave me low self esteem. But ever since I started to learn the healthy way of stuff… I’ve gained confidence. I would never lift weights and be scare to go to the weights section where a lot of guys are there…. Now I’m a regular! I would never go to the gym because I get too scared of people looking at this chunky girl trying to run.
Now, I love to do it and will continue to do it. People who are looking at me are just there and I have no idea how long they’ve been working out…. They at one point might even be like me and I’m just starting out now while they started a few years earlier than me. Who knows?? But you CANNOT let that stop you!
If I ever see you in the gym I would be SOOOOO proud of you. I would smile and try to talk to you and encourage you because you are doing it for your self and health!

Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
whole thing is I am already depressed and just walking up a hill makes me burst into tears. The Phentermine gives me the energy I need to work out and all I eat all day is fruit and some veg and maybe some meat. I like them because they give me the energy i need that i cant get from just working out, then once i see results, that motivates me. maybe not everyone likes the idea of pills but i have been under weight before but i know what i want to get down to and i know i will have support from husband and he wouldnt let me go too far.i actually have goal jeans, so i know when i fit in them, im done and i just have to maintain the weight from there

Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
I agree 100% with Les - I have yo-yo'd on diet pills in the past. I took them and they worked, but then I wasn't learning how to keep it off. I would go right back to habits that got me overweight to begin with and EVERY TIME I gained back more than I lost on the pills. Now that I have learned to eat right I have taken off 25 pounds and I am really enjoying the food so I don't feel deprived or hungry - and that is what will help me to keep the weight off.Lesplease wrote:I think the biggest issue is that the pills might work for now, sure, but what next? You said you'd taken them before and they worked. Short term. If it was a long-term solution you wouldn't have to take them again. This is about a lifestyle change. Eating well, exercising, getting plenty of rest. As Brenty says, it's simple. Not easy, but simple. It can be more dangerous to bounce back and forth, and frequently on the bounce back you will end up with more than you started with in the first place.
Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
I cant enjoy life being on a diet, I cant stand healthy foods, i dont eat veg really and fruit bores the hell out of me. Im beginning to feel like this website really isnt for me, everyone here has alot of confidence and they are on the right track to spend their lives eating healthy and still having to workout 4 times a week. I really dont have the motivation to do any of this right now. When I am ready and really feel like I can do this, then I will.
Re: Has anyone tried weight loss pills?
It's not only about outer appearance, living a healthy long life should also be desirable. Diet pills + junk food is not a good recipe for that. Screw the gyms, do it on your own. Bike, walk and run outside, lift free weights at home. No one to judge you there.
