Post pregnancy help!!

Post by linznmaddy »

Hello,
name is Lindsey and I am a 26 yr old female that is trying to lose post pregancy weight. daughter is almost three months now and I am still carrying a lot of weight sice the her birth. The bad thing is, is that I have lost a lot of muscle also and am pretty much starting from scratch. I need help with meals because I dont have a lot of time to prepare food and am often eating on the run. I do love to exercise but often times self sababtoge once I start seeing progress. I have no clue why I do this, but nevertheless I do. I am currently 155lbs and am 5'4". Is anyone out there in boat. I would really like to hear from someone who has gone or is currently going through this. Thanks a lot!!

Hi there,

I'm not in the same boat as you... but I am the same age. :)

What do you mean by "self sabatoge" once you start seeing progress? Like you make progress, feel good, then celebrate by eating more or taking time off of workouts?

What do your current meals look like? Post what you eat and when. Also, do you have access to a gym? Weights?

This should get us started...

Cassie :)

Hi,

Yes, I've been in the same boat. I had 4 children and I was never sure how I would ever get back on track with exercise and eating well. Here were some things that worked.

1. I stopped pushing myself so hard and had to realize that life has changed and expectations need to be more realistic.

2. Whenever I made dinner, I would always make extra so I knew that I would have left overs for lunch and/or snacks.

3. I never kept "junk" in the house (I didn't realize this until child #3). I realized that I thought the kids needed their "commercial" food but I realized that I was setting them up for hte same issues I had. job was to teach them how to eat well too! So I removed any processed junk and kept fruit cut up for them (I know your baby is still very young, but keep this in mind as she grows).

4. Whenever I went to the grocery store, I came home and immediately chopped up fruits and veggies so that they were always convenient and ready-to-eat!

5. I used to take stroller walks 3x a day, right after breakfast, after lunch and right before bedtime ( kids bedtime) sometimes, I would go after. NOt sure if you're working outside the home or not, but those walks helped me so much. When you're ready, you can kick it up, maybe start doing strength training, etc. But take it slow, don't put so much pressure on yourself!

As for the self-sabotage. I think it's because you may fear you'll fall short of what you want your goal to be. Just focus on being the best you, the best Mom you can be. Realize that by taking care of yourself, you're better able to take care of that beautiful baby too!

Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice! Once again I was all amped up to start workout routine and quit a couple days later. I guess if I go off eating plan and eat fast food I just don't see what the point would be to exercise. I know that any exercise is better than none but I feel defeated if I go off eating plan. As far as self sabatoge goes, I think it is a fear of not getting to where I want to be and also I think that if I reach goal and put the weight back on, I will never be able to get it off again and people will think I am a loser. I know its kinda pathetic. So I started over yet again with a simple to rid body of garbage and am working hard on eating better and not eating take out food. I have simplified goal to not be a certain size, but to be really healthy and fit so I can be around for as long as possible for husband and daughter. I also dont want her to have unhealthy eating habbits. So right now the focus is more fruits, veggies and water. I am going to exercise at least three times a week and try not to over do it. If anyone has any suggestions about quick healthy dinners that would be great. Dinner is downfall. I never know what to cook that is cheap, quick, and healthy. Please help!!![/color]

Oh and Cassie, I do have access to a gym and weights. I mostly try and work out at home because of the baby. I will post all meals from now on so you can get an idea of where i might be going wrong. Thanks for your help!
