Hi! Just posting to hopefully get to know you ladies and support each other as we 'do the work' and 'be the change'. Sounds a little hokie, but that's why I'm here. I am looking to release the 5# of fat I've added since avatar picture was taken a couple of years ago. It is HARD to stay at 15% body fat, especially for a 52 year old! Feel free to "friend" me if you need a buddy to support you. It helps me a lot to walk the walk when I have others around doing the same.

As I mentioned elsewhere, If you look anything like you do in the photo, which am in no doubt you must do, judging by your admissions, thne you can be incredibly proud of yourself.

Your "youthful maturity", speaks volumes for you as a dedicated, physical individual.

WELL DONE. You are clearly an inspiring Lady and we look forward to benefitting from your mental and emotional qualities, as well as your insights and intellect.

We will be here for you too, so good luck in all you do and keep up the hard work, because you are an obvious outstanding candidate for the title of rolemodel.

:).

Well, yes we are all in this together and if you are looking for serious support from people who are serious about fitness then this is the place to be! I especially love meeting women who are about age or older who refuse to let age get in the way or be an excuse to be out of shape. You rock, girl and I will definetly friend you!!!! :D

Hi Sandi! Thanks for the welcome. You're looking well yourself! Yes, I think age really is a state of mind and we definitely don't have to settle for a slow, steady decline if we fuel our bodies properly and lift weights regularly and keep on learning. Great to meet you!

Rebuilt is just user name, so feel free to call me Beth :)

HI and welcome! You look fantastic! I am so glad you have come on board here, as you can be a real inspiration to all here. As I have gotten in to late forties I have found that it is more important to me than ever to stay fit and healthy, and also that it is harder than ever before to get there!! :D But you show that it can be done and have truly inspired me to keep at it.

Wow you look great! I have a body fat of 30% (may be less since I lost some weight after that finding) and I can't imagine how much work it is to be 15% or even 20%. It’s so good to see at any age you can still look healthy and fit.

Question: How do you find out how much body fat you have?

Kreyola, you can get a body analysis at most gyms. If you don't belong to a gym call around to your local gyms and inquire. The trainer at gym does mine. Beth, what does your fitness program look like? I am very interested to know!

I had analysis done by a trainer who told me body fat is 30%, I was curious to know if you can find that information out by yourself. fitness program consist of class and Cardio/Weight

Monday - Zumba Toning ( Light Weight)
Tuesday - 24 S.E.T. ( Heavy Weight )
Wesnesday - Spinning
Thursday - Off
Friday - Cardio ( StairMaster etc) + Weight Training

Sometime I switch it around and take less class and do more cardio/weight. Either way I see the result... I just wish the scale would reflect what I’m seeing :|

Fitover40, Sandi and Kreyola, sorry for the long reply time...I'm still kind of finding way around here and forgot to check this thread.

Usually I do a 2-day split (upper/lower) sometimes pyramid style (think BFL-no booing allowed :) ) and sometimes with moderate to heavy weights 3X10-2 exercises per muscle group. Most exercises I do are compound, but I throw in some isolation exercises, too. HIIT cardio 3 days/wk. along with abs/core work. Sometimes I just do full body. Generally lift 3x per week, cardio/core 3x per week. One day off . Looking to shake things up a little and have read some interesting ideas here! Nutrition (when I'm behavin) 6 mini meals, lots of water and a couple of "cheats" a week. Had a hard time with sugar during the holiday season (recovering sugarholic!). Oh, when I say "holiday season", I mean Halloween to Xmas.

Kreyola, in all honesty, body composition was done on the Tanita scales at the gym...which are NOTORIOUSLY INACCURATE! Menstrual cycles, hydration levels and time of day can all skew results. I have some calipers at home but hard to pinch self accurately enough for me to rely on them. Most of the trainers at gym are too inexperienced to rely on. I use the Tanita scale with tongue-in-cheek and prefer to rely on tape measure, photos, and progressive increases in exercise intensity to measure progress. Body comps are useful to have a baseline to measure progress, but it's just one piece of the puzzle.

Happy training!

Hey Sandi! Sorry I've been ignoring forum time (eldest daughter just gave birth to 2nd grandson).

Honestly, shoulder definition is a genetic trait, as it doesn't require that I train them more than a couple of times a week. That said, on upper body days I train shoulders either pyramid style or straight sets with Arnold presses or regular shoulder press, Arnold style lateral raises (front-to-lateral or lateral-to-front), or cable lateral raises, standing dumbbell reverse flyes, or reverse pec deck. Usually just 2 shoulder exercises per session, maximum 6 sets. Also, I'm a big fan of cycling creatine which makes a big difference with me. Just have to be sure I flood system with tons of water (very important when using creatine) which means I'm in and out of the bathroom all day!

Beth, congrats on the birth of your 2nd grandson!!!! :D Wow, I have a lot of trouble thinking of you as a "grandmom"! You are rockin it!!!! So yeah, I was thinking the shoulders are genetic. Ugh. I hate wimpy shoulders. :( Having a little trouble with those. Maybe I need to hit them up a bit more? I will ask trainer. About the creatine. I unknowingly took a supplement containing creatine and bloated up something terrible!!! I suppose that is why you must consume lots of water while using it. Unfortunately, at job I have no time to keep running to the bathroom so probrably not an option for me. Well, I hope you enjoy your new grandson. I bet he is just precious!!! :D
