New Here - Trying to be healthy & fit.

Post by kreyola »

Hi,

name is Sheila and I just started going to the gym about two month ago. So far so good, I'm losing about one pound per week, but at the same time I have a few concerns. When I was at ideal weight, before daughter, I was 145 pounds, right now I'm 167 pounds (5'8). Now question is this, when I was at 145 pounds not only did I lose breast :( but butt as well. I didn’t really workout much, the 20 pound weight loss was due from stress from college studies and working two jobs. I was wonder if the fact that I'm doing weight training will help me not lose breast and butt? Also main problem area is lower abs, any solution to getting rid of the fat there (I hope when I go back to 145 the stomach fat will go away and then abs would show). Any advice or help would be great. Thanks.

It's about diet... like what you eat and how much you eat...
How's your diet? when you eat and what time you eat?

Hi Sheila....welcome..... :D Weight training will typically develop the glute (butt) which should firm, lift, and give it a nice round appearance from the side. We have actually been discussing this in another thread about as the ladies reduce their , the breast does shrink, although bench press and such can develop the muscle tissue under the breast. What type of weight training are you doing, as far as the different exercises?

Hi Sheila! I'm new to this forum, too. I totally agree with Iron Will's post. I never was "well-endowed", but decreasing body fat will definitely decrease bust size. It's well worth it, though! Like Iron will said, the butt can definitely be shaped through weight training. There's some great tools on this forum to help you drop weight and learn exercises to change the shape of your body. Hang tough, girl!

Iron, what thread would that be, hmmmmm?? 8) Welcome, Sheila!! Losing weight due to stress is not very attractive. A few years ago that happened to me and I lost butt too! It looks horrible. Then when the stressful situation was resloved and I started eating again I gained it all back plus!!! Sooooo, the only way to lose weight and look and feel healthy is through a good diet and exercise including weight training. As Iron said the weights will build muscle and keep that area firm while losing fat!! So now you have created a new healthy lifestyle that you will keep forever and the fat never returns. Happy ending! :D

Hello Guys and Thanks for the reply :)
It's about diet... like what you eat and how much you eat...
How's your diet? when you eat and what time you eat?
diet mostly deal with low crabs and that seems to work for me. I eat allot more protein, vegetable, and fruits. A typical day will start with eggs whites with green papers and turkey slices. snack in between is one apple and one orange. For lunch I would have chicken breast with a side of vegetable. When I go to the gym (which is 3-4 time a week) I eat a protein bar on drive to pick up daughter and then I head straight to the gym. Around 7:30(15 min after the gym) I drink a wrey protein and cook fish with vegetable. I usually wait for two hours before I go to bed.
What type of weight training are you doing, as far as the different exercises?
I usually do three class at gym
Monday - Zumba Toning ( Light Weight)
Tuesday - 24 Step Lift ( Heavey Weight)
Wednesday - Spinning Class
Thursday - Off
Friday - 35 Cardio + Work Arms & Chest with heavier Weights
Have you posted an intorduction yet? I might have missed it.
Sorry I missed a step, I have not post an introduction yet. I just jump into the woman area and introduce myself here.

P.S. I lost so far 8 pounds and decide that I will not go lower then 150 (I'm currently 166). I totally believe in weight training because I want to not only lose weight but also tone up as well. Thanks guys for all the advice and I will continue to read the forum and get more knowledge so I can stick to goals. This site has been great in keeping me focus.

150lbs is not a bad weight, but for a female, be aware you may still carry a little on the lower Core and Obliques area in that instance, because unless you really lift solidly and get very good natural female, amateur powerlifter build, where you could weigh 150lbs with 15-18% fat approximately, you'd be possibly around 30% fat at 150, muscle size being a factor in this.

Well done this far and good luck persuing your goals as well. You can be proud of yourself and it's great to know you're achieving things and sticking to the task :).

hmmm, I want to have a body fat of at least 20% (15% would be a dream). goal is really to be healthy and fit (because I know as you get older it will get a whole lot tougher) family (who believe thickness is good) is looking at current weight of 166 and they are saying "Do you want to be anorexia" which is not true at all. I just eat a whole lot healthier to lose the weight and once I'm at ideal weight I will eat the correct amount of calories to maintain weight. If at 150 body fat is still 30% I will continue to work harder to get it to at least 15% -20%, so if 145 pound give me a body fat of 15% then I will go to that weight. family will have to accept that I'm happy when I'm healthy. Thanks for the info Boss man, I'm learning something new every day and this forum has a lot to do with it.

Anoexic at 145lbs. Nope. Some women on Steroids weigh 145. You don't need them to be 145, but trust me, that's not anorexic. 80lbs might be, 145, isn't even close. There are people weighing 120 who aren't anorexic by any means, who would be unhappy to be 145lbs, if they were carrying another 5%+ more fat than they thought desirable and they wouldn't be obsessive people either.

So don't go on the families perceptions of things. as long as you'e not going below about 110, lean, on a permanent basis, which you are intimating you won't, you should be perfectly fine. As you say, it's your happiness that counts, don't please others whilst hurting yourself. They have no right to expect a situation like that, nor should youdo it to please.

You're your own person to some extent. Be naturally that person yeah, not unnaturally others :).

It sounds like you're really doing a great job to focus on getting your body healthy and strong. What women forget is that breasts and butt have plenty of fat tissue so when we start losing fat, well, that's where it comes off. There is no doubt that strength training and cardio will get you lean and help your butt, but your body is what it is and sometimes losing too much fat is what results in the "flat butt" look as well as "flat chest" look. It's all a matter of balance. When you reach a weight that you feel "good" at, stay there which will help consistency and maintenance. As for the lower , well, of course exercise can help, but as a mother of 4 kids, I've come to understand that having children alters your body and it's better to focus on what you can change vs. what you can't change as designated by Mother Nature. Keep up the great work!
