Workout music

Post by Fygle »

What do you like to listen to when you work out? I'm sure I'm in grave minority here listening to trance, house and oldschool hip hop from the 1990-2000 era.

Don't do it, except in the past when I did boxing stuff as part of a workout, then I'd mostly use stuff like T-Rex, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden. Michael Schenker Group etc etc.

T-Rex, the Jam, early David Bowie, and believe it or not coldplay (dunno where it came from but it gets me through cardio), the Kinks, REM

Now you're talking, when you mention the Jam. I think the Kinks wee probably an influence on paul Weller in his childhood, as he has often been called the Modfather, certainly for his early Jam look around 1977,78 and his use of prominent symbols sometimes on some videos and later albums.

He certainly was infulenced by the Small Faces, because he performed Tin soldier during his Paul Weller Movement days.

Coldplay are okay actually. Some mock Chris Martins vocal style, calling it whiney but I don't see it as that, I just think he shouldn't call his kid a dopey name like Apple :P.

You're definitely speaking to me with some of that stuff.

I listen to a lot of Metal, Rock music. It often drives me to work harder, esp while doing cardio.

As I Lay Dying (LOVE 'em), Papa Roach, Disturbed...I love disturbed...,In flames...some hip-hop, not so much tho...Probably weird choice of music, but it works for me!

You should check out people like Atomic Rooster and Grand Funk Railroad on You Tube. If you're not used to much old school rock, you might like that, as some of the vids are pretty cool, especially the keyboards from Vince Crane playing with A T.

Boss Man, I am so not familiar with this type of music! It's old school to me. I listen to some Metallica...they're just classic, but it's just not the same as disturbed...Im a BIG disturbed fan...only if they could come here ='(

Hey, I wasn't familiar at one time. A Lot of the bands by the time I was growing up had disbanded, or were camped in studios doing Albums and tours, not much TV stuff and little to no singles. I only found about some of the bands back in the 90's, when their stuff was being pumped out on Best Of albums or Albums of mixed bands, 15,20,25 years after the stuff was first recorded.

Some people won't like all of it, but some will. People like jimi Hendrix, Cream Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, the ones I mentioned. Most of those are on You Tube, but all the Guitar bands now are in some way influenced by Bands of the 60's, 70's and 80's, or those bands unfluenced people the new breed, grew up listening to, so one way or another you can trace it back over the years, perhaps even to the Accoustic Blues of the 1920's and 1930's America, that inspired the Electric Blues guys in the 1950's onwards, who then inspired those people in Britain and America in the newly emerging guitar band scene.

So you won't necessarily like some of it, but you might like certain other people, because some bands used common verse / chorus structures; some used long drum solos and / or guitar and keyboard sections, that run into each other and songs on albums at 5-10 minutes or longer.

However you will hear some of the most talented people ever, but it's a question of taste like these things are.

Some people who like old Rock bands would think P Diddy is a no talent bum, and P Diddy people, might think Led Zeppein played the musical equivlant of Japanese or Chinese dialects and wouldn't get it at all.

So it's just the way things are. You might hate old stuff, or like some of it, I can't say.

Eddie Vedder , Audioslave , Punjabi MC , Talvin Singh , RHCP . RnB is good stuff too (not all of them though)
The last time I was working out I was listening to an audio book (not a good idea) called "Dogbert's Top Secret Management Handbook" . The workout which usually goes on for 1 hr went on for 2 hrs coz I was laughing half the time.

I prefer to have focus 100% on the muscle I am working, not on the music that is playing. That's just me though, most people will think that is strange, but the mind-muscle connection is a very important aspect of weight training. When it comes to cardio work, music is fine.

Wide variety for me...
Mostly Hard/Alt Rock like Deftones, Sevendust, Tool to STP, Soundgarden and Nonpoint.

But I also like Techno/Dance music as well when I workout.
