I second that,

experience has been that we tend to over estimate how many calories we actually burn and underestimate how many we actually consume.

This is one of the big reasons why new clients always believe they are doing everything right but the fat's not coming off.

If I plan on losing weight or building muscle I always make a point to over kill it.

ALso those calorie counters on treadmills are more like an educated guess at best. I recommend you find a hear rate monitor with a calorie counter for more accurate readings. Myself though I never bothered to count calories burned or eaten. If I'm not losing weight then I know I need to eat less and burn more regardless of the numbers.

Those heart rate monitors with a calorie counter, would be a best guess too. I doubt it would be easy to compare one of those to a calorie counter on a treadmill and say which is better.

Even a Bodybugg is likely to be a besy guess instrument, as is a Pedomoter.
