Wouldn't measuring yourself with a tape measure be a "true" way to find out if you've lost fat and are toning up? Obviously, if you measure in the same spot each time? Like the biggest part of your hips, thighs, button?
I was just thinking of an alternative since the scale can be deceiving? (to a point) like if you gain muscle or have water weight?
Measure with a tape measure instead of scale?

Measure places like the Biceps, then measure the Waist.
Most of the Waist area when you're a few lb's over, is Fat not Muscle, so if the Bicep measurement goes smaller, and Waist does too, probably Fat that's been lost, though small possibility some Muscle too.
If the Bicep gets smaller, Waist doesn't, could be more Muscle loss then Fat.
That's not a 100% certainty, but it might be a pretty good indicator.
