Finally time to focus on me and change

Post by hattieholder »

I am 33 years old and for the last few years I have been so focused on 8 yr old daughter who has several health problems. Since she was little she has had a slew of problems with headaches gaining weight etc. She had brain surgery in 2007 for chiari malformation and also has a condition where she gets fluid filled tumors in and around her face called cystic hygroma, lympangioma. She gets miagranes so while being her support , I really let myself go and I must say it was quite stressful. I am so ready to change to better health for not only myself but for family so I have joined the gym.
I have started off slow and am doing 25 mins a day and splitting that time between the treadmill and recumbent bike. I have to also mention I have bad knees and I would at some point like to do the eliptical machine ,people make that machine look so easy they get on there and go to town, I can last all but 2 mins on that and the position of it is acqward to me.lol I feel like such a whimp when i get on there lol.I need a routine that will be easy on the knees and am slowly adding in 5 mins to routine a week. I dont want to do to much at once.Any and all suggestions welcomed:)

Hi & welcome to the site!

I’m happy to hear that you are making changes for your health and for your family. I’m sorry to hear about your daughter. The best thing is to be her support and to make sure you’re healthy enough to do so.

I would clean up your diet. Like what you eat and when you eat. Diet is like about 75%-80% of weight loss.

How fast are you doing with the treadmill and resistance for the bike?

I would recommend doing some weights. It doesn’t have to be heavy now until you get used to it. But do use weights. It will help you burn more calories.

In addition, for the bad knees, Hyaluronic Acid supplements might benefit as would Cartazyne, Chondroitin or Chitosan.

Chitosan is a Chitin carrier, so not good if you've got a Shlellfish allergy. Cartazyne is more a Cartilage one, as is probably Hyaluronic Acid, so H A would be the best one of those.

You might also find Vit C supps, at 500mg 1-2x a day minimum, food. Buffered is better if you have a slight issue with C, but C helps with Collagen production for skin teeth and bones, plus it's an immune system booster and an Iron booster and as you should still be menstruating at 33, it should help make sure your Erythrocyte, (Red Blood Cell), levels are good, especially in conjunction with dietary Copper.

You can get bone nutrition in your food from things like Vit K, D, Magnesium, Silicon, Copper, Phosphorus, Calcium and Boron, but it's not too difficult to get those considering you they come in food sources like Seeds, Oils, Avocado, Peanuts, Nuts, Dairy, Eggs, Fish, Flax, Soy products like Soybeans, Tofu, Tempeh, Nattokinase, Edemame, also Beans, Shellfish, Rice, Mushrooms, Pork, Whole-grain, possible others too.
