Pull up/Chin up

Is this considered as a Pull Up/Chin up? I can't do the one where I have to lift whole body from the air yet. Not strengthen. But I can do those. I progressed from doing 6 to 12 a set.

Does it have the same benefits?

That looks more like a Inverted row. Not the same as a chin-up. Perhaps you could use a chair to stand on and do some negatives to build the muscle up.

How do I do negatives? Is it when I'm actually up and going down? Because I tried doing that, and even that I cannot do yet. =(

wow, I just realized that all this time I have been doing chin ups, instead of pull ups. Thank you Les, for defining what the difference is, I was always wondering. And also, are inverted rows where you lay down and pull yourself up on a bar from a prone position? Are they needed in a workout that already includes regular pull ups? Or, if you can do a reg. chin up or pull up, should you even be doing inverted rows?

You can also use an assist machine or pull downs to help you practice the motion and strengthen the muscles until you can do a proper pull up on your own.

Chin ups (palms facing you) use more bicep and less back, and are easier to do. I don't like to do them since I don't like biceps. I'm a pull up girl (:
I'll try to do "pull ups" next time I'm in the gym, and see if I can pull 1-3 reps...i'd probably be able to do that much only.

I do pull downs, and they're fairly easily and do-able. Of course I increase the weights to make it hard. I can currently do 60-70lbs.

I'm a BICEP girl, lol...I should try doing chin ups as well....

Don't inverted rows also work your upper back (lats), shoulders, triceps and biceps?

There are some females, who complain about the fact you had larg-ish Biceps, and all their efforts yielded little size increases.

So the best thing is to enjoy them.

Lesplease wrote:Ugh biceps are huge. I don't do ANY isolations for them, just major lifts, because I don't like them and they are a helper muscle and get more than enough work with benches pull ups dips and everything else! traps and bi's are both stupid big so I can't fit into shirts that fit me fine across the bust & tummy cos arms are too big for the sleeves and shouldies are too broad for the back! Oh well!

pulldowns are pretty good. Lately I've been doing assisted dips and pullups in super sets 5x5 with no rest and a high assist. I shake and BURN by the end and LOVE every minute of it!!
Wowie...I wish I can do that or have decent biceps!!! Which I don't until now.....it's frustrating...='(......But I can understand if you get big biceps they dont always fit in ur shirts and stuff and that truly sucks. I have some size 8 shirts, and since i gained a bit muscle they're a lot tighter around upper arms...eh! Thats one downside to being muscley
