Tips for a new Vegetarian

Post by Lif »

As of the first, I'm trying out life without meat. I'm still drinking milk and will most likely still have eggs. I eat a lot of tofu, but I'm curious as to if anyone has any other ways of spicing up the vegetarian diet. I'd love any ideas or tips. :D

Hah I'll venture out to Whole Foods to try that stuff. I'm a big fan of MorningStar. Are they similar?

Try experimenting with different EFA based Oils, or things like Herbs, Spices, cracked Black Pepper, Sea Salt etc etc.

I've been a vegetarian going on 12 years. Some of favorite meatless products are Boca breakfast links, Gardenburger original flavor patties, and Amy's Enchilada Dinner. Regarding the other post on here about quorn, I haven't tried any of their frozen foods, but the Whole Foods deli counter makes some great dishes with it, including "chicken" nuggets.
Don't know whether you're concerned about your iron intake or not, but it's something I've really had to watch. If you've not tried quinoa, I highly recommend it. It's a good source of protein and iron. You may also want to include a protein shake in your diet. I drink chocolate Myoplex Lite. I buy the powder and mix it myself because it's cheaper. You can mix it with water or skim milk. It has 25 g of protein and 70% of the RDA of iron. You can buy the shakes pretty cheaply on http://www.netrition.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually eat an atrocious amount of quinoa. I did not know about the Whole Foods deli counter though. I don't always head over there, but I will definitely check it out. :D
