Cross-training

Post by lilesy »

Hey i'm a tall build and am not very powerful. I never have been no matter how much i've tryed power exercises but hav always been reasonable at endurance. When i was training hard i got to quite a high level. I play field hockey and would like to become super fit again so i can run all the other players into the ground. i know some players will have the speed and power over me but i reckon that if i can still be running full speed and with loads of energy at the end of the game i can come out on top. So i thought cross training would work and would just like your thoughts on this. For the last month i hav been spending about an hour at the gym about 5 times at the gym split up into rowing cycling running and swimming. one of those days is also a very heavy boxing and running session.

Is this a good routine to building super fitness so i can run non stop for 70 min at a high intensity?

if i can run 100m in 10secs and you can run it 18secs i'm faster, that's easy

as we both go through the match and we both get tired, you might take 25secs to run 100m but i may still only take 18secs, your original time, so i'm still faster

see what i mean?

get faster, your already good at endurance, improve your weaknesses

here's from a blog of mine (it's about footy but the same thing applies)

but what i'm trying to say is that if i'm super fit and cardiovascualr endurance is good then at the end of the game you could have no breath left and wouldnt have the energy to sprint as fast as u could but because i can tolerate that lactic acid better then i can still run at pretty much 100% because i'm not worn out as much as you are. hence i will be able to go harder at the end of teh game when it counts.

and also i hav trained heavily for speed and power for over a year and only improve by a tiny margain. I did plyometrics, hill spritns, interval training for speed endurance i did explosive weights training and just flat out sprints with lots of rest in between. All of this barely helped.

diet is good as well so i don't think that has anything to do with it

well if noone else trains and just turns up and play then it may happen like that but i assume everyone trains and plays and everyone is fit and ready to go

you've got less potential to increase your endurance so speed has to increase

maybe you had a shit training program? if your not strong, your not quick...none of those training methods build strength...strength is speed

do you want me to validate what you want me to say? alright

run. run everyday. run in the morning. run in the evening. set your alarm clock for midnight and run then also. no one will be able to run for a slong as you can. steve monagetti dreams about you. jay stacey dreams about you. even those hot ollyro chicks dream about you. "oh he can run for such a long time" they'll say with a blush. except...

you take 2 hours getting from the club rooms to the ground the game will be over so it won't matter

if you already knew the answer, then why did you ask for advice?

have u heard of speed endurance? its running at an increased speed for longer periods of time. If one player can run fast he could beat me at the start of the game, but at the end of the game he would be too busted but i cant still run at maximum at the end of the game when it counts, which will be faster than his busted speed.

When i run i do interval training for endurance which incorporates changes of speeds and not just constantly jogging. I do sprint but its sprinting while fatigued, which might not be as fast as someone elses full out sprint but its still quick enough at the end of a game.

I thought i knew the answer but thought i could be wrong and this looked like a good place for quality infromation but wat ur saying is just useless. You think ur a mad arse personal trainer. I don't think u know much at all. i'd back myself to know more than you and i'm only 18.

You seem to comment on everyone's posts saying their wrong and ur right as if nothing is correct unless you do it. You dont explain things very well at all and when you do they sound pretty incorrect to me. I hav gym friends that have seen ur posts and will back me up. And they ARE actually personal trainers

I have speed, i just dont hav explosive speed off the spot.

Just keep thinking u know everything mate. at least u'll feel good about urself.

and i only get upset when people talk crap and think they know wat they're talking about to try and sound big.
