help with shoulder injury.

Post by RK19 »

ive not been able to do any upper body work since i took a tumble 5 weeks ago, i went to a chiropractor shortly afterwards where i was told i had dislocated 3 ribs done something to mid-back (cant remember what) and damaged shoulder. she told me it would take maybe 2 weeks max for it to get better after she had popped everything back in, the thing is though shoulder is still shot to shit. ive only got limited movement in it, she said something about tendon damage, but what i want to know is how can i make it better? start off with really light weights and work way up from scratch? as you can imagine im getting really frustrated with it all. any help would be great.

Sounds like you'd potentially slipped one or two discs in the Thoracic Vertebrae, 12 of the 33 in total, which are situated between the 7 Cervical in the Neck, and 5 Lumbar.

I assume they were popped back in somehow.

If you've caused Tendon damage to the Shoulder, it could well be to the Cuff, so it might be one or more of the Tendons, connecting the Teres Minor, Infraspinatus, Supraspinatus or Subscapularis to the Ball joint.

When you say limited movement. You should be able to get Lateral movement, forward movement, and Bi-directional rotation, are you getting partial movement in one or more ways, or almost no movement in one of those three Shoulder movement styles?

Tendon damage, can be corrected in certain ways. Taking NSAIDS, possible Cortisone shots, or worst case scenario a Tendonectomy, when you get part of a Tendon removed, assuming the affected areas, can't be surgically repaired or heal of their own accord.

However until it can be established what you're actually capable of doing, I.E. how the joint can move currently, it's hard to know what would be appropriate

lesson #1 - when you go and get treatment, listen to what they say

they won't you, they simply treat you

wts are way off i think ecspecially without a diagnosis and you'll rarely slip a thoracic disc or do a rotator cuff in a one off situation

i can move shoulder in all directions its just painfull to do so, especially at the end of its travel. it feels to me right at the socket is the source of the pain, particularly at the back.

See a real doctor if it still hurts. Most muscle pulls, tendonitis, bruises, etc. will heal in 6 weeks if you rest the area.

If it has not healed in that time it is time to see a doctor.

(I don't think you can dislocate a rib.)

Ok, know this reply is coming alittle late and hopefully you have seen a doctor by now. It does sound as if you possibly shifted something in your thoracic spine (probably some ribs were dislocated, not to uncommon in certain falls). The shoulder issue depends on how you took a fall. Typically shoulder injuries involve the rotator cuff, if you were trying to catch yourself with that arm while falling. The other possiblity is that you pulled the supraspenadus tendon causing inflamation where it inserts into the humorus bone, this can cause an impingment within the shoulder where support muscles slide between the alycronon (sorry about the spelling). At any rate it is best to get to a doc and have them look at it, an MRI would not be out of the question too.
