I'm new here and need help....PLEASE!!

Post by Maglady12 »

I am 39 years old and have never had children and also have high blood pressure. I had a smokin' body when I was young (as I am sure most of of did...lol). I gained alot of weight over the years....up to 233 pounds. I lost 53 pounds but have gained back around 15 pounds back. I am starting to workout again, but the problems I am having is, I am not sure what the "right" things are to eat (I have cut out white bread, pasta, etc.....I buy whole grain) and also I have some hanging skin because of the weight loss. I am unemployed so I can't in any way afford cosmetic surgery to get rid of it......I would more than likely drop at least 2 pant sizes if the skin was gone. Is there ANY way to get rid of the skin issue without surgery?? Also, you hear from lots of people about "how" you should be working out. How is the crap do you know what is right for you and to get the quickest results??
I'm sorry for the rambling, but I am typing this as it runs through head...lol. ANY and ALL help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I have been walking on the treadmill and burning anywhere around 300 - 500 calories eachtime. I have tried to do the ellipictial, but the way that thing is built....I am to short for it and it hurts knees and hips (I am 5'3"). I also did first spin class....that is a KILLER....hehehe.

Thanks for taking the time to read post!!

Hello and welcome! Congrats on the 50 lb weight loss. And also for recognizing that you have put back on some of it and want to make the changes necessary to stop the lbs from creeping back on.
Yes, I think alot of us ladies remember back when we had "smokin' hot" bods...but time and choices we make is not always kind to our bodies. But the good news is that we can change our habits and lifestyle at any age and tho' we may not get back the youthful body we had, we can make our bodies healthy, fit and smokin' for whatever age you are at now!
Looks like you are on the right track with cutting out the white bread, pasta, etc. Choosing Whole wheat breads, pastas, flour is good. Make sure to include plenty of lean proteins like chicken breast, fish, lean beef, things like that. Lots of veggies (steamed in the bag kind are good) salads w/dark leafy greens and load up on the veggies like carrots, broccoli. Bell pepper, zucchini, squash, avocado. Try to have healthy snacks in between meals like almonds, or LF mozz. cheese sticks (it helps to keep your metabolism burning throughout the day). Search the forums in Diet and Nutrition, or Diet Journals to see what some of the others are eating, and find some recipes as well for healthy meal options.
On the exercise part - good job on the walking. If the elliptical is giving you problems, then stick with the spinning. Are you doing this at a gym or at home? If at a gym, are you doing any strength work, like weights (Barbell, or dumbbell)? Incorporating weights with the cardio will really help burn calories, build muscle, & lose fat.
If you could list what you eat each day, and exactly when and what your workout is, then we could go from there on figuring out what will work best for you. There are so many great folks here with a ton of helpful info and insight that can help you reach your goals - don't be afraid to ask questions. And remember to read through the forums...lots of great info in them. Best of luck to ya!!

I'll be 39 in April and I am just starting to have the smoking hot body that I never had when I was young. Food to eat, that has worked for me, has been 5 -6 meals a day about 300 - 350 calories a meal. A portion of protien at every meal, 4 to 6 ounces. In the morning I have starchy carbs (oats, homemade muffins, oatmeal pancakes) w/ protien and fruit. After 'lunchtime' I taper off starchy carbs and fruits and focus on non-starchy veggies like broccoli or green beans. 5th meal does't have any starchy carbs, just protien and veggies.

Stay away from store-bought products that are 'low calorie' or 'fat free' Stay away from high-fuctrose corn syrup, MSG, preservatives, and white foods.

I try to make everything at home. Some things just isn't reasonable to make, like bread. I like ezekial bread, found frozen in the organic section of your grocery.
A very good resource I have found is the eat clean cook book. There are plenty of good for your body recipes in it. A good book to read about food is master your metabolism by jillian michaels. She advocates eating 3 meals a day and one snack, I like eating every 2-3 hours, but the information about food is amazing. Another book I recently read and loved is "the end of overeating" by Kessler.
