Chances are most of the food was being retained in the Intestines. If you had poor contraction of the Smooth muscle surrounding the Stomach and Intestinal areas, you would have found food passage through the GI tract quite pedestrian.

I don't believe it would have been down to things like poor Enzyme creation, or some kind of problem with the Pyloric Valve. If food had retained in the Stomach too much, it might have been indiciative of Gastroparesis, a condition that causes Paralysis of Stomach muscles, which sometimes can onset due to side effects from medication. It usually affects gastric emptying, of which a test can be performed to ascertain this.

However this condition is not curable, and would likely have created a situation, where you could only eat for a mximum of 2-3 times a day. So realistically it wasn't what you had, fi you're now regular. Plus increasing Fibre would potentially aggrevate GP, by promoting poorer gastric emptying potential.

Arachidonic Acid, a by product of Omega-6 digestion, can help to promote Smooth Muscle contraction, and Meat, Eggs and Dairy will give you Omega 6.

Laxatives wouldn't have been necessary per se, as you could have eaten Prunes and Figs, natural laxatives, or if there was a slight issue with partial food retention in the Stomach possibly a Digestive Enzyme product.

I have actually heard of some obese people, having a bowel movement once in 14 days, so you are not the worst case I've heard of, getting one a week.
