Still not getting results i want........

Post by pat86323 »

Ive been at it for a while now and am still noticing change in 1. posture 2. shoulders and arms 3. legs. Would like to get some results in midsection as i actually feel like i look even worse with everything else progressing nicely.

Diet is as follows.

Upon waking up a serving of oatmeal, an apple, and a protein shake. (finally getting to where i can eat in the morning without feeling icky)

a few hours later i eat a handful of nuts and protein usually.

lunch i eat about 4-8 ounces of solid protein (tuna chicken venison ect ect) and some sort of veggie or a sandwich on whole grain bread.

afternoon snack not really sure why but about 2 hours after lunch i cant seem to resist peanut butter and i try to eat protein (kinda tricky as i am usually not home.

Dinner i eat a lean protein and a ton of veggies (usually broccoli salads or a frozed veggie blend)

Post workout i suck down a proten shake then rest till class the next day.

i do cheat once a week but version of cheating involves eating sushi (the white rice isnt the best but whatever i feel like its a pretty good cheat)

Workouts have gone down to 3 a week as the semester is coming to a close and lots of projects and finals and all that jazz but consist of
day 1 squats, leg curls, barbell row, deadlifts, 20 minutes of warmup cardio, 12 minutes hiit, then 10 minute cooldown cardio.

day 2 Bench press, Flys, Weighted crunches on that devil machine (i know everyone says they are useless but i actually kinda like them) shoulder press, then 45 minutes of sustained cardio (cant do much in the way of hiit because im hurting too bad from squats)

Is there anything i should be doing differently or do i just need to continue being patient?
day 3 Is basically a replay of day one except i take the barbell row out and do assisted pullups (at roughly 275 i use 80 pounds of assistance) and a little extra cardio ( i like cardio from what i hear im kinda a freak but i just listen to music and go with it)

for optimal results:

- protein and veg breakfast is golden for fat loss, ecspecially if you're not training until the evening...try eggs and bacon etc.
- how many is a few nuts? what protein at meal 2?
- take bread out of lunch and add more veggies and/or protein
- for afternoon meal, pack some protein to have with you
- post workout you need carbs but as you're training late then have 1/2 your carbs before training and the other half after
- there should eb another meal after that too like your dinner...maybe cut the dinner in half
- can you train before dinner?
- your workouts have decreased but you're still doing 40mins of cardio...you should be doing wts only if your limited on time...muscle burns fat, cardio doesn't
- 3 x full body workoputs followed by some bodyweight circuits should do you..also do some bodyweeight circuits at home on off days (it's 10mins and do twice a day for 20mins total time - easy)

Have the peanut butter after lunch... just make sure its 100% natural (adams brand is good) and make sure you have protein there also. If nothing else, jerky works as it is easy to take with you.

If you do take out the oatmeal with breakfast you could move that to postworkout meal.

Definitely take swansos advice with the full body workouts using compound exercises. If you have to make a choice between weights and cardio go for weights. Alternate back and forth between exercises to keep your heart rate up instead of sitting and resting between sets. I know you're short on time, however if there is any way you can squeeze in a couple more days to designate to cardio (and save weights days for weights) I would do so. Even just a half hour of intense cardio would help. If not possible just do the best you can until you get through finals.

Sushi- I LOVE sushi. Have you ever tried making it yourself? I know youre short on time so might not be possible right now as it is kind of time consuming. However if you make it yourself you can use brown rice or quinoa instead of white rice and you can use filling of your choice (I use ff cream cheese, mango, cucumber, avacodo, shimp, salmon, and crab of different varations)... plus making it yourself is MUCH cheaper. :)

swanso, protein at second meal is usually left-overs from some other time whether its chicken or pork tenderloin or a venison steak or fish its leftovers, if i dont have leftovers i eat a few strips of jerky. I usually just eat as many nuts as is comfortable to hold in one hand out of a mixed nuts jar Almonds peanuts macadamias, cashews, and those big guys that i cant remember what they are called.

i can workout predinner but that would have me eating pretty late what i usually do is get off of work 930-11 come home then go straight to the gym putting me home at about 12-1 im still up for a few hours after

you cane at late that's fone, ecspecially if you're still awake for a while after it

i'd have half dinner, train, post training meal (shake, oatmeal) then other half of dinner (gegenrous serve though, maybe make up 1 1/2 dinners and split how you want)

It will help you lose weight all over. Unfortionately you can't "spot reduce" or lose fat off a desired body part. Your body will let go of the fat as it chooses. However, if you carry a significan't amount around your midsection you should notice fat loss there, in addition to other parts of your body.

as i said i have been noticing a pretty good reduction on arms, chest and legs, but work shirts do not stretch at all and i kinda use them as a reference to see how im doing and havent noticed any loss from the midsection. I guess ill just be patient and see what happens.

Yes just be patient and keep working at it. I've noticed that I lose weight in face and chest first and lower body last. I recently lost quite a bit of weight for competitions and for midsection upper abs came in first and lower abs last (I think this is because you carry less fat on your upper abs than lower so it doesn't take as much fat loss to make the upper abs show up). Make sense? Keep in mind that it could have something to do with the size of your body parts and amount of fat that you have there. For instance, your arms are smaller than your waist so losing an inch in your arms is most likely going to be more noticable than an inch in your waist.

How are the other things going in your life Pat? Have things gotten better since we last chatted? Hows the hunting going? Is it cold there? Its 1 degree here right now... AKA FREAKING COLD. :|

hunt is over on sunday and i have to work every day until then so im just crossing fingers for step mom so that way i can at least score some meat. Last night when i was on way home from a friends house the temperature was -6 so its nasty bitter cold here. We got one hell of a winter storm earlier this week and we are sitting in piles of snow. Unfortunately it wasnt quite enough snow to open the ski resort. But we have another storm supposedly hitting us this weekend and hopefully that one opens the mountain up.

Well that sucks that you didn't get one (a buck right? If i remember correctly you already got your elk). -6?!?!?!? Holy freaking cow thats f-ing cold. Luckily we haven't gotten any snow yet. I live out in the hills about 20 minutes from work and the drive is hell when the roads are frozen. Do you ski or snowboard? Either way thats a great workout! When are finals over? Next week is finals week for fiance. He (like you) has been cramming to get stuff done for the end of the term. I sure don't miss those days! Sorry for all the question. :|

I just went back and re-read your original message in this thread. I'm glad to hear that everything (other than your midsection) seems to be progressing nicely! I'm sure your midsection is shrinking too... maybe just not as fast or as drastically as the rest of your body. :)

nah i actually got deer and didnt get an elk this year, but i cant complain too much i had a pretty good hunt regardless, saw lots of critters and did enjoy myself. I actually took last final yesterday and i feel like i did pretty welll on them. I actually dont ski or snowboard (im tempted but i also know that im a little too bold and will likely break something the first time i do it) reasoning for wanting the ski resort open is to increase business at the restaurant that i serve at. Some extra cash would be nice.

Oh. For some reason I thought you're elk season was before deer season (was thinking it was the opposite of our seasons here) so was thinking you got an elk but didn't get a deer. I'm confused.
I actually don't ski or snowboard either.. although i have the opposite problem.. I'm not bold at all and the thought of flying like a maniac down a big cold icy slope just doesn't appeal to me. I tried skiing twice and spent the entire time on butt. It wasn't enjoyable. I've also tried snow shoeing.. another form of torture in opinion. Ice, cold, rain, snow make me thankful for nice warm indoor weight rooms.

Man thats a good feeling to be done with finals! How many more terms until you graduate?
