Two to three teaspoons of butter? Can we get Cassie's input on that? I would typically stay away for that reason, but it does sound yummy!

everything in moderation, i always say. In this dish you need the fat or it will not 'crisp'. But I have had the apples in the micro without anything but a touch of maple and cinnamon and they are great like that too.

Things did not work out like I wanted them too, and I was not able to run the 5K race. We had a northern blow in with snow and ice (not something we are used to in these parts :shock: ) so hubby really didn't want me driving (he wasn't going to the race :cry: ) on icy roads at daybreak by myself.
When i told co workers on Friday that I was thinking about running a race in the a.m. - 25 miles away... boss says, "you mean to tell me, you are gonna get up out of your nice warm bed, leave your nice warm house, drive north 25+ miles across icy bridges and roads, THEN pay somebody $25 bucks to run 3 miles outside in 22 degree weather?!...have you lost your ever lovin' mind!?!!" hahaha.....I said "it's a sickness...." but up until late that evening I was still hoping to do it, but it just wasn't meant to be this time....but that's okay, there is another 5K next weekend - 25 miles south of here, and yes I am going to get up at daybreak, leave house, drive 25+ miles and pay somebody 25 bucks to run 3.1 miles, and hopefully if I am lucky, they will award me a nice shiny medal - and if not, then that's okay too....and yes, it IS a sickness....ha! but it's one I am glad to have, and I love the way people react to all racing and triathlons and such, it gives me some secret kind of joy to know they think I'm crazy... Just wait til I tell them about the marathon I am running in April....this time I will be driving 40+ miles - paying somebody $55+ and running thru the woods for 26 miles!!! :D :D Heck, they may just have me committed at work.. :roll: :lol:

You made the right decision Lynne - we had the same stuff here, but we're in CT!!!! What's it doing in Texas?? I thought it was warm there...at least better weather than here!

I don't mind driving in the snow, but I am in Maine. If I were in Texas, and it snowed, even an inch I would stay home. husband is from Florida and people from warm places don't know how to drive in the white stuff. They are scary!

There is always another race, but only one of you. Good luck next weekend!

Yeah, it is rare...everything usually grinds to a stop - no one works, schools have the day off, we just all sit home and stare at the white stuff, maybe scrape enough snow together to make a tiny, somewhat messy snowman :D & take alot of pictures...never know when you might ever see it again!

I once read that you really shouldn't run when the temperature dips below 25 degrees so have always used that when trying to decide to run in the cold weather. I think you made the right decision. Anything below 30 degrees is just too freaking cold!

I actually made an apple crisp for fiance yesterday and used fat free sour cream instead of butter. It turned out really well! I bet you could also use peanut butter or almond butter in place of regular butter! Les is right though... a little bit won't kill you. However if you're really trying to watch calories try the ff sour cream next time.

Well, it's back to work today. This weekend was Mom and Dad's Christmas Dinner, with all the trimmings. I did alright...I made some roasted zucchini and squash w/Parmesan cheese and brought that, for a dessert I made (package, not homemade) Banana Walnut muffins. I ate a little of everything. I didn't stress about it near as much as I did the Thanksgiving dinner at ma-in-laws, and had a great time visiting with brothers and sister and parents - good family stuff :D
Now for todays meal plan:

Breakfast: 2 omega-3 scrambled eggs w/LF cheese, pan roasted ham slice
snack: peanuts, almonds, raisins (small handful - so I would estimate about 1/4 cup)
Lunch: Mixed greens salad w/peppered smoked turkey, 1/2 avocado, tomato, mushroom w/Homemade dressing
snack: LF mozz. cheese stick - 6 almonds, 6 pistachios
post workout: 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 6 grapes or 1/2 banana
Dinner: tilapia fillet, salad (like above but without the turkey)

I added up your calories (totally estimating as I have no idea how big your portion sizes are) and that doesn't seem like enough calories or protein. I think I would add a piece of fruit to snack 1 in place of raisins and add a bit more protein there. Lunch looks good. Snack 2 looks like it could use more protein. Post workout meal could probably use a few more carbs. Dinner looks good. You could add in another meal of protein/veggies/fat after dinner.

Lynne - make those homemade Protein Bars (recipe on Brentyboy's thread) you'll never again need to think "What should I eat after workouts?" They contain everything you need post workout - I also drink a shake :)

Wow now uve cut the carb from lunch too, good for u :) I feel like a caveman, when I'm sitting eating " meat " & veggies alone :shock: Ha ! This whole time I was thinking FF = full fat, lmao..me thinks its fat free ?..Anywho, glad to see u r doing so well ! Keep up your work :)

Yeah, Lu, I bought all the stuff to make those protein bars...just haven't taken the time yet to do it :roll: need to tho'

I can see right now I am going to have to start doing workouts in the mornings during Christmas season. :roll: I didn't get a workout in today, because as soon as I got home from work, I got busy with Christmas decorating. We are stringing lights on the tree, decorating it, digging out all the old ornaments - playing Christmas music. We got a real tree this year (used a pre-lit one for the last few years), I love the fresh fir tree aroma, it smells so nice!
So tomorrow, I WILL get up early and get out the door, get 4 miler done, hopefully have enough time to do some core work, then off to work I go!

Raisins are too sugary, so change them I feel.

As for the one with the Nuts in, having 6 of each seems a bit silly. You might as well round those off to 10.

6 Grapes has 2.4g Carbs. Half a banana even a small one has about 9.5g Carbs, so you're being too off with the Carbs.

Low Fat Cheese has decent Carbs and more Protein, so use LFC and forget the after workouts. If you really needed a Carb boost, go for something like half a small Banana, as a boost, but eat it first, then about 15 minutes later eat the Cheese, to promote better Banana digestion.

The Low Fat Cheese would be good or post workouts, as it contains Magnesium, Calcium, Fat soluable Vits, two of which K2 and D are Bone vits and Vit C, which helps create Collagen for Bones skin and teeth, so a good choice not only for muscle growth / maintenance, but also for Bone strengthening / maintenance.

Plus the Proteins would to some extent, be spiked better into muscle from the Insulin creation via Lactose

Plus if low Fat Cheese is quite soft, it would breakdown quicker in theory than harder cheeses, but although an alkaline substance, it's temporary mild ph neutralising effect, shouldn't have too much effect, on the ability of the Stomach acid to break it down.

The body can regulate it's own Stomahc ph anyway.
