Coffee & Soft drinks

Post by skully »

I find it interesting how people get addicted to coffee.

Is it something that you can control overtime or?

Personally, I drink cappuccino twice a week from a certain place on certain days (Mondays and Wednesdays), and I can go on w/o having this coffee throughout for weeks. I think I've trained body to like this certain coffee from a certain shop. Otherwise I really don't crave it.

A lot of people say drinking coffee makes them lose weight, true or fake?

In a month, I may have about 8-10 cups of coffee, only.

As for soft drinks... because when you buy a meal, you sort of just get it, you get used to having it in your "junk meals". For the past two days I had about 2 sips of Mountain Dew, really..and I usually drink about 2 cans a day. It's not something that I crave, but "like" to have with "certain" foods. But I'm
replacing soft drinks with bottled lemon juice (may not be the best as opposed to freshly squeezed ones, but I'm sure it's 50% better than soft drinks), with green tea, which I like...and water. I still do have soft drinks here and there...I plan to limit intake of it, but not completely shut it out.

Its not necessarily the coffee they become addicted to... Its the caffein. Caffein is a highly addictive substance and many find it difficult to do without after having it in their system for an extended amount of time.

I suppose drinking coffee could potentially make a person lose weight. It can give a person more energy and if they took that increased energy and used it up in the gym or on other calorie burning activities they could lose weight. However, many people add things like cream, sugar, syrup, chocolate, and other stuff to their coffee which can add a TON of unneeded calories. In these cases the coffee drinkers would most likley end up gaining weight. I suppose if a person were to lose weight while drinking coffee we would probably want to look at other factors in their daily routine to figure out what was causing the weight loss. It could be that they were skipping breakfast and drinking a cup of coffee instead (plain coffee has few, if any, calories) and were losing weight as a result of decreased calories in their diet (although skipping breakfast is a dumb idea and would ulimately set them up for failure). Or it could be that they were experiencing increased energy from drinking their coffee and they were more active as a result of the increased energy and were losing weight as a result of the increased activity. I've never heard of coffee itself making a person lose weight, however I know that I feel a lot more energetic after a nice cup of hot coffee and am often a lot more active and motivated after morning cup. It could be all in head too though. Who knows!

I never felt that coffee or caffeine in general gave me any energy at all. If anything, a few times I got agitated....but it usually doesn't work. I'd drink it and still "yawn"!!!

I know the way I have coffee is not the healthier way, but I have it with low-fat milk, brown sugar, and 1 sweetener...but, i used to have it with 2 white sugar packs, 1 brown, and 1 sweetener...I'm crazy, but it tastes good!with a lot of foam, too...but it's sth i have only twice a week

I read an article months ago that talked about caffeine. The article said that if you have caffeine that your body will become tired for the first 20 minutes because it's adjusting to the caffeine. They interestingly said that if you take a 15 minute nap right after you drink coffee that it's the equivalent of taking a 1 hour nap so you will wake up rested and very energized once the caffeine kicks in.

I used to drink coffee/energy drinks when I was in school but quit drinking both once I graduated. I have a coffee once in a while and I feel so jumpy and nauseous.

That's quite interesting...do you by any chance remember where did you read the article from?

Sorry, I don't remember where I read that. It is also said that people with ADHD have an opposite effect with coffee. It's a depressant instead of a stimulant. So if you have ADHD, this might be the reason why coffee has that effect on you. Who knows!

Hm...I was on Valium for a while, about a month...it didn't have that effect on me, but it actually made me VERY tired, and gave me a worse insomnia than I ever had!! Thank God I'm off it.
