In 24 hours, to be "moderately active", how many hours should we be on the move?
Today's lifestyle makes it hard for people to be on the move, for example working 9 hours a day, and another 1-2 hours just driving. So out of 24 hours, 11 hours is out of the picture if this is a desk-sitting job. And another approx 7hrs of sleep, so that's 18 hours. In the remaining hours, how much active do we need to be to lead a "healthy" lifestyle.
Is it truly possible to lead a healthy active lifestyle with today's situation of working hours, obligations...etc.
To ask it differently, how many hours as day should we be sitting?
For me, as much as I know healthy food is good for body, and is better than junk food, I only gain weight when I'm not active, despite the food I'm eating.

time isn't the best thing to go by
you could walk those 6 hours a day and still be out of shape
a genral rule is 5 hours of actual training, not exercise, training, where you focus on getting better at something (strength, reps performed etc)
there's plenty of factors at play though like the more ordinary your diet is, the more training you'll need but as they say, you can't outtrain a bad diet
3 hard wt sessions and 2 hard cardio sessions should be enough with a semi decent diet

Re: How many hours do we need to be active?
That's interesting. I didn't know that.
I'm making a new plan, of which I force myself to be active, because I over-sit, which kills blood circulation. After sitting for 1 hour, or watching a show, it's a must for 10-15 minutes I do some aerobic exercises, some squats, some sit ups, walking up and down the stairs, and this is not an exercise session, but a mini-active/exercise session. I hope this will help me in losing some weight. I think it's a good idea to do this at least 3 times a day w/ a full 20-30 minutes exercise. What do you think?
I know for sure I'll never have a 100% clean diet, because that's impossible and that's how I ended up eating junk because I ate so much healthy stuff I got bored. so I plan to have 70% of cal intakes from healthy food, and 30% from junk food like having a coke or have a "half of" a low-fat ice cream scoop.
While the other stuff is juice, grilled chicken, brown bread, all bran cereal...etc....I'm still not a fan of veggies and fruits it's so hard for me to eat those...eh...

Re: How many hours do we need to be active?
I'm just dealing with the reality of the situation. I know it's not the best way to think about it, but to be completely honest...I know myself I can't handle eating healthy food 7 days a week in a month and in a year. It's just not possible in general for anyone. OF course I'd want to eat some candy, but the trick here I will not eat it "everyday" anymore. OF course I'd love to eat mac on bed like I did last week, but I am not doing that anymore, but it doesn't mean for the next years of life I will NOT eat mac every now and then...
goal is to balance activity with more healthy food than junk, and for body, I know I can where I want as long as I stick to that. I don't want to be a health freak, I was and it destroyed me more than did me good, honestly. I don't want to be a body builder. I want to be an average healthy with a good body person who is active and does not stay on bed like it's the only place I can be in.
I think that's pretty reasonable as comparing to how I was just a few days ago. Just because I watched food and activity level in the past 3 days, I lost 0.5 KGS already. No joke.

Re: How many hours do we need to be active?
The thing is, I'm not sure at this point of life I have that mind-set of dropping off all of the junk stuff. That's the problem. I'm not even sure I want to be 100% healthy either...I just want to have a nice body. As shallow as that sounds. I became so desperate I bought pills, and I know it's complete bullshit...and stopped taking them...
and with lifestyle here, there is no time to cook or pack up some food and make sure it doesn't go rotten on the way!
