Losing that pregnancy weight! Am I doing the right thing?

Post by Amanda350 »

I just had a baby 7 weeks ago. I gained 60 lbs during pregnancy and have so far lost 40 lbs. I have been the one that eats bran flakes for breakfast and then i'm not hungary again until about 6 pm. I drink nothing but water. But for the past 2 days I have started making myself eat something every 3 hours. I have an elliptical at home that I use for 30-45 minutes every other day or if it is nice out, I will take the kids for a 30 minute walk. pushing a double stroller mind you... On the days I do not do cardio, I do 3 sets of 8-12 different exercises like one day i'll do dumbell bench presses, exercise ball crunches and reverse lunges. Then the next weight train day I'll do push ups, seated dumbbell presses and again the crunches. I keep switching those up but I only do what I can at home. I have 5 and 10 lb weights and I am going to buy resistance bands today, but with 3 children and a husband that works alot, I cannot go to the gym. Is what I am doing at home correct or should I be working out every day with both cardio and weights? I am getting diet under control but I am confused about the exercise part.. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I would say the Cardio 30-45 minutes, every other day, is fine, and will be most beneficial. I think you're going to be fine doing that.

The key is not to undereat, and do too much Cardio and weights, or some of the weight loss could be Muscle, which is not ideal.

So how many calories should I be eating and how many times per week should I weight train?

I would say in the region of 1,800-2,000 calories a day.
