Sleep and Exercise
So, wife and I just had our first child and we are definitely sleep-deprived. Over the past few months i've been working to get in shape and have lost about 20lbs. Up to now i've been continuing 6am workout routine but I'm so tired i'm wondering if it's detrimental to continue the workouts. The whole stress, cortisol, lack of sleep combination--should I continue as usual or just work on healthy eating until we can manage to get some sleep? Open to thoughts!

How many hours of sleep are you getting each night? What are you doing for workouts? How many days a week are you working out? How long are your workouts? (not being nosy, just wondering what your schedule looks like so suggestions can be made).
Yes, missing too much sleep can definitely set you back from meeting your goals... however missing workouts can also set you back. Its a tough call really. There are times where I haven't gotten enough sleep and have gone to the gym anyways, only to get there and realize that i'm so exhausted i really can't even get in a good workout... if this is happening to you then you really are better off sleeping in a bit instead of dragging yourself through a halfhearted workout.
By the way... Congrats on the new baby!Boy or Girl?

Is there a way you could either
A: workout a bit later in the morning.
B: perhaps cut down the volume, so you do a complete workout, but maybe with only 1 or 2 sets per exercise instead of 3 for example, or 2/3 of a cardio workout, to save time. Certainly don't just do half a workout and end up training some areas and not others, as that's not beneficial.
C: workout in the evening.
The thing is, the exercise would be good and so would the sleep, but you're potentially at more risk of issues by not training and letting your wellbeing slide, as opposed to getting a little more sleep.
Altering the ability to do the workouts, or when you workout, would be better if possible.

sorry about the delinquency here, been a little crazy. we had boy and named him Landon. we're in bed for about 7-8 hours a night but it's pretty interrupted so more like 5 hours. i've been doing a 5 day routine of alternate cardio/weights and recently switched it up to do half cardio half weights and it's felt more manageable. Workouts are roughly an hour a day and so far over the last few months i've shed about 21 lbs. still more to go but feeling great about the progress so far.
cardio is mainly treadmill, elliptical, bike & stairmaster (a most hateful machine) and then weights are more free weights.
i have been considering moving workouts to later in the day so i can sleep in. it's a definite possibility. the last few days have been better so i'm managing to make it up in the mornings. i'm going to take it on a day by day basis and see how the sleep goes. i think doing a half cardio/half weights routine each day keeps it moving and keeps me awake enough to be engaged.
