how much is too much protein?

Post by DevilWrath »

im kinda scared of taking in too much protein, because it can cause kidney stones...how much is too much?? 300- 400 g per day? im 16 , does it make a difference? im about to go on the V-diet on T-nation, and its a high protein and low carb diet...just afraid that i'd get rocks in kidney...lol

depends

if in decreasing carbs then you need to make them up with a fat and protein increase to get your cal's in

1.2 - 1.5g per pd of bw for mine

lesplease is right. For the average person .75 - 1 gram per pound of body weight is ideal. For those who train more than 5 hours (all exercise) per week I recommend up to 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. If you have a history of kidney disfunction check with you doctor first and have a bun test down. Keep proteins lean and spread out in several meals per day including post workout with an appropriate amount of carbohydrates.

.75 is probably too low simply because noone will increase their fats intake to make up the calories so they'll under eat chronically and/or be on a carb rich diet...yes that can be done but i can bet they won't increrase carbs through fruit and veg

One of the guys I work with eats 500-600g per day. He weighs in between 220 and 260 depending on the time of year. He aims for over 2 grams per pound of body weight. I think that may be a little much but I'm not going to argue with him. The guy is a monster, he placed 13th in Canadian nationals this year as a heavy weight.

It's not just the protein to Kidney Stones connection from too much, but protein contains Nirogen which is converted to Uric Acid. To much UC buildup causes U C Crystals to collect around Joints causing Gout, which is very painful.

So not really going above 1.5g per lb is beneficial.

Sorry to say this, but the article fails to stipulate 25g, as a maximal, digestible limit for ingested protein per sitting. I can't find anything there that says it.

As for the other site, which has awful ads in peoples messages. Crappy place to put ads , the consensus there is what people think, not what is fact. Apart from comments about Whey shakes digesting quicker than Beef, which is obvious when you think about it, there is no proven fact I can find on either site, relating to maximal Protein digestion per sitting.

Just hearsay and peoples preferances.

Not being rude to you just being honest.
