How do you prevent yourself from falling asleep at work?

Maybe I’m just sleep deprived but man, after lunch I’m like falling asleep at desk.
(It’s like food coma!!!)
I’m trying to concentrate & try to compute numbers after numbers but eyes are slowly closing….
I don’t want to snack on things because I just ate.
I do stretch once in awhile.
I drink tons of water and have to keep running to the little girl’s room.
Still… eyes are slowly closing… (Lucky me I’m not facing boss!!! :shock: )

So… any ideas anyone would like to share?

LOL! I go to bed at 7:30 at night so get enough sleep (I wake up at 4:30). I've found that sipping green tea all day seems to help. I also go to the gym on lunch break (which i take from 2-3) which really helps me get through the last couple of hours. When nothing else works I get up and walk around a bit. Sometimes i go into the bathroom and do pushups or jump around a bit to get blood flowing (I know it sounds crazy but it works). Are you eating a carb heavy lunch? Sometimes carbs make me sleepy.

How is everything else in your life? Any luck buying that second house or are you still living in the other one with the family? How have your workouts been? Havent heard from you in a while... I hope all is well with you girl!

Work has been soooo busy lately and Boss (not bossman) but boss is not on vacation and won’t be anytime soon….so… uh.. YEAH..lots of work with deadlines for Nokie!

Family loves the house so everything is fine as long as they leave me alone!!!
As for own house (2nd house) yes, I got it!
I closed escrow 2 weeks ago and in the middle of painting!! (I’m sooo BROKE!!!)

So… at this very moment, I will say….. I hate painting … I’ve been painting from 7AM to 9PM for 3 weekends now and only half way done!!!! Oh poor hands... and poor poor fingers ached sooooo BAD!!! I came back to work the other day… I couldn’t even type!

Beside me in the middle of moving (AGAIN!!!)
I still make time to workout! (4-5 times a week)
Maybe because I workout in between 1st and 2nd job.. I’m forced to go to the gym even tho at times I just don’t want to! But once I’m in the gym… I’m so in to it!

I would like to add a morning workout and/or late but it’s just a bit hard managing time for that because at the moment I’m only getting 4 hours of sleep!

As for diet… It’s not the best and not as bad (At least I don’t think so). I cannot stick to any meal plans at the moment because I have no food at home (I cleaned them out last week & don’t want to shop either as I’m trying to pack stuff up) I have a stack of eggs and plain oatmeal at work! Oh and some low fat cheese, fat free cottage cheese for snacks. But for lunch and dinner I go out for soup, salad, or sandwich. I haven’t lost any weight… but haven’t gained either… So, I guess I can’t complain as I’m crazy busy yet trying to be as healthy as I can. I hope by the end of this month… things will slow down because I’m ready to pull out hair any time soon even fiancé hair! (I think b/c of me he lost some hair!! :shock: ) You know… if the girl is not getting enough sleep, stress of work, and not eating enough… yeah... the cranky B**** comes out! :twisted:

When I realized I’m about to snore at work…
I got up… took the stairs and walked up and down 3 times… Dang that’s a lot of stairs!!!
Then came back to desk and typed up the question on shapefit….

Cassie…. You do push ups in the bathroom??
That’s awesome... I better start doing that too! :D

I’ve been consuming way more coffee than health can handle…
But I NEED IT!!!! (Yes... I’m a bit addicted to black coffee… morning and night!)

That’s a little update on me! Thanks for asking Cassie... I got that out of chest!
Maybe I should have a journal or something so I can VENT all day, all night...!!! Just Kidding :P

Oh the "oh I need it" thing with vices.

Makes me think some people must have been bottle fed Coffee from birth, the fact they somehow need it, when they managed perfectly well without for 10+ years.

It's all in the mind dear viewer, all in the mind.

What you could do is just take an I-pod or something like that to work, cram it full of stuff like Iron Maiden, and other heavy metal, on a loop, and give yourself a massive Brain humping for about 2-3 hours solid.

That should keep you awake :wink:.

Girl I don't know how you do it! You amaze me! I really wish I could come help you paint. I know how miserable that is! I can't imagine having to paint two houses in a row!!! I think its awesome that you're still finding time to workout and eat healthy even though you're so insanely busy! You are such an inspiration!!!

LOL! Yeah I've been known to do pushups and situps in the bathroom. I work in a small office (4 of us here including boss). Us women have our own bathroom and we keep it nice and clean in there. When i get really tired I'll sneak in there and do mini workouts. Can't do them in office because I constantly have customers popping in and out.

So when are you planning on being finished painting? Just think how nice and peaceful your life will be when you get all moved in and settled. Thats going to be such a great feeling!!You'll be there before you know it!

As for the coffee... I know many people don't agree with the coffee thing, however I truly love a good cup of coffee and have bee known to live off of it when i'm in insomnia mode. I hope you can start sleeping again soon! There is nothing like being busy and sleepy. Its one thing to be insanely busy... and its one thing to be insanely tired... but to be both at once is absolute misery!

Keep up the hard work Nokie. You're such a wonderful person! If you ever need to vent... or just need somebody to keep you awake while at work... feel free to shoot me a pm anytime. :)

Thanks everybody for your ideas! work recently blocked off Youtube and Pandra (Video & music site) BOOOO!!! I’ve been listening to ipod all day and all night. I have over 500 songs in it and I’m so bored of it… Need to add more and take some out (when I have time!)

I think I did had a bit too much carbs for lunch… that might be the cause of me being so darn sleepy beside me not sleeping enough! Protein sounds like a great idea…

Question: How much is too much for protein shake intake? (I know this is random)
I was reading someone’s diet plan (not this site) But it’s seems like they have protein shake for every meal… except 1 (I think it’s solid)
I only have 1 protein shake a day for post workout... but honestly having it for every meal... I don’t think that’s healthy at all..! And… Waste of money!

Coffee… Would drinking decaf make a difference? Because I drink decaf at night.
I usually don’t over consume coffee… just recently... but normal is 1 cup of black coffee every morning. That’s about it.

Protein... If I were you I would shoot for around 150-180 grams per day. The 180 is a lot... and considering your schedule it would probably be easier to get around 150 (I take in 150 per day). So if you have 6 meals a day, try to get in 25 grams per meal (1 can of tuna has about 23 grams, 4 ounces of tilapia has 20, I believe 4 ounces of chicken also has about 20). OR if you do 5 meals, shoot for 30 grams per meal. Not hard at all.

Coffee... I love me some coffee... never done decaf though. I usually just switch to water after first cup of coffee. Not sure about the decaf. I would imagine it goes through processing to take out the caffein so would imagine you'd be better of just sticking to good ole water.

Why does this not surprise me? :wink: I can just see the other ladies with their ear pressed up to the bathroom door saying, "What is she DOING in there!!" LOL!
There have been times when i went into the bathroom, put the lid down sat down and propped head up in hands and took a little snooze! (all on breaktime, of course :wink: ) But Cassie's idea is a better one, much more productive :)
I also get up and walk outside for a minute or to, stretch take a few deep breaths, it seems to help. :D

A Chicken Breast has roughly 30g Protein that I know of, and that's if I recall a 100g, (3.5OZ), standard size.

LoL… I did push up in the bathroom yesterday at the bigger stall (last one out of 4 stalls)…
Someone thought I was trying to bend down looking at them doing their stuff at the other stall…
(Someone made a comment out loud... Who is peeking??…)
I walked out as soon as I can! :lol:
LOL… oh man, that was embarrassing! ... Sure glad it wasn’t boss! :shock:

OH GOODNESS I AM LAUGHING SO HARD RIGHT NOW NOKIE!! That is hilarious! I should clarify that bathroom at work is a single room (like you'd find in a house).. no stalls or anything just a room with a toilet, sink, and all that. That is so funny to me! :lol:

toilet squats!!! hahaha! Women have been doing them for years (especially in public restrooms!) Just squat over the toilet (don't sit down) - then back up, repeat! LOL

Climb up on the toilet seat, and grab onto the tops of both sides of the stall and do dips...

mom had a one-person art show at a local university and there were quite a few people milling around. I had just come back from a rock climbing stint and I was wearing Five-Tennies (running shoes with rock climbing rubber soles).

dad said, "Do you think you can climb that brick wall?"

I said, "I bet I can." And I proceeded to climb about 15 feet and was making a traverse over an arched passageway when mom came out. Instead of warning me to get down because she was worried I'd get hurt she said, "Packard, get down from there; you're embarrassing me."

So you've got to watch were and when you do your exercises.
