Trouble hitting Lats =(

Post by bkoman »

So as the title says im having a bit of difficulty hitting lats. I try all types of exercises like db rows, lat pulldowns, pullups with varied grips.... I always seem to just fatigue shoulders. Im thinking this may be happening because back in December I had a shoulder impingement/delt tear and its taken about 8-9 months to heal. But now I think shoulder is just weak and if im not correct the shoulder is a stabilizer for a lot of rowing exercises is it not?

I also really check form and try other forms when doing lat exercises none seem to give me a burn and im never sore the next day. Most of the time shoulder just gives up (especially on db rows). Also with the DB rows i've tried varied postions with the angle of upper body and where im pulling the DB to. Ive tried pulling close to rib cage and have also tried pulling back with elbow so finished position is with the DB down near hip. On lat pulldowns I make sure I arch back and stick chest up and pull to the upper part of chest leaving grip loose (kind like pulling with elbows) which is supposed to put more emphasis on the lats. It's definately enough weight because im sticking in the 5-8 rep ranges. Pull ups were working but for some reason now I feel nothing from them...just more fatigue in the shoulders and arms....

Any thoughts, comments, or questions?

Thanks for the time and help!

use slow negative phases for pull ups and contraction positon isometrics hold for each rep on pulldowns...maybe you lack full range of motion and can;t get to a fully stretched position for the lats which is where the soreness will come in

Thanks for the input. I do a full body routine and lat pulldowns are in todays routine. Im going to try to lighten the weight a bit and use a 2 sec isometric hold and see if that helps. Maybe lats are just underdeveloped and need a little extra attention. I'll post tomorrow and let you know how it goes thanks again.

well i use to have this problems but sometimes it can be cause your arms and shoulders give out to quick, when doing rows pause when going up and down but lower it slowly , now when i do rows i feel it in back it might be that your doing something wrong just try this when going up pause 1 second then lower it slowly and when doing pullups arch back a little and the wider your hand the more you work your back the closer they are they work more the biceps, and lat pulldowns lean back a little then pull dont go lean back then forward thats doing it wrong trust me i know.
