I used to think (and do) that very same thing. Now, however, I'm in the basement working out when Biggest Loser comes on. I've got the wonderful folks at these forums to thank for that :)

You guys are an inspiration!

Consider this:

Get bumped from Biggest Loser week #1.

Rush to the hospital and get gastric by pass surgery done (but close up the sutures by a plastic surgeon).

Go back at the end of the season and win the consolation prize ($100,000.00)

Piece of cake.

this season's Biggest Loser show seems to have really taken a liking to dropping the "F" bombs and bullying the contestants. I didn't notice it so much last season. Both trainers seem to be trying really hard to be "hardcore", but come across to me like they have been told or coached by producers to step it up a bit to increase the "drama" factor on the show - it seems out of character...not that I know for a minute what their true character is. A little "in your face" training can be a good thing if done with respect and honesty to motivate someone to try harder, but I fail to see how screaming insults and cuss words improves anyone's self esteem or self confidence. If it were me on the receiving end of some of that, I'm afraid one of those trainers would be missing a few teeth by now!! I watched the first episode, but no more after that.

I saw a segment of one of those American ones once. It made me want to spew profanities to some degree.

The people who do this, use methodologies that are almost certainly not espoused by most people, and teach contestants nothing about how to keep weight off or lose it sensibly. It just promotes extreme loss of weight, weight which is not quantified, and could be mostly muscle and water sometimes.

Overweight people need help. You don't help people by treating them like crap sometimes, and in some cases giving them false belief, in targets that aren't realistic, and ultimately harm them, buy not teaching healthy weight loss ideals, or weight meintenance ideals.

You really think that Micheals woman got like that, using her own methodologies? Yeah right. None of those poor deluded people, will ever look like her doing that stuff.

Shows done like that, promote unhealthy weight loss ideas in people, and have low educational quality. They should be axed, and the trainers on it should have ther certificates revoked in some way.

It's a first class disgrace, and in many ways, contravenes the kind of attitudes and ideologies. responsible weight loss outlets like this site, strive to promote.

Lesplease wrote:I'm such a sucker for those reality shows. Not that one specifically, but the ones that chronicle a single person. A&E is good for that. So is TLC. Housesitting a few weeks ago I saw "650 lb Virgin". Woah. "1 Ton Dad" Looked good too, but I was gone by then and I don't have TV at home so I missed it. ):
I have an extra TV in basement. Stop by and I'll give it to you (the TV, that is).
