Ready to Make Some SERIOUS Changes!!!

Post by ArgentinasAngel »

Hey everyone....well here goes I'm 28 years old and a mother of a 20 month old. I am a stay at home mom at the moment and a full time student. I have always struggled with weight but at 22 I decided to join the military and I was overweight so i needed to change that in order to enlist. I lost 90 lbs by working with a trainer and watching what I ate and enlisted as soon as I made the weight limit. In boot camp due to the no smoking I ended up gaining 20 lbs and it was all down hill from there. While in Japan I met husband and 2 years later had daughter. We are now in Florida and I am tired of being 220 lbs it's awful especially in this heat. biggest concern is daughter and I want to be around for her and I want to teach her from a young age about being healthy. I don't want her to have to struggle like I did. The trainer I worked with before joining the service passed while I was in boot camp and unfortunately I never really took the time to learn anything b/c he would just point and tell me what to do. I have no idea where to start or how to incorporate it all in life and with family. I have made a choice that today is the day and I am tired of saying I am an unhappy while I sit on the couch. I have never done this alone and its very overwhelming.....any advice

thanks for the reply....

ok well right now activity level is pretty much zip besides chasing daughter around and diet is even worse but here is what I can give you.

Its hard to get out to do things with her so I got the billy's boot camp set that I am starting tonight when she goes to bed. I have also been playing around on the wii fit the last few days with the yoga. Even though I was used to push up and sit ups I'm not quite there yet but would like to be there again.

As for diet I usually eat once or twice a day and I know that it is terrible so for today I decided on some plain oatmeal for breakfast and coffee with no creamer and splenda (yuck) guess I just have to get used to it.....right now husband is making me a small chicken breast and veggies and I am a big soda drinker and I have not had any today just water.....I think that is going to be the hardest part ( I love soda) :P

I am a very picky eater and i love veggies. so I guess its going to be a lot of chicken for me lol School starts for me again tomorrow and that makes it hard b/c we just pick up fast food on the way I am going to try to eat before I leave the house that way i am not hungry on route to school.

any help and advice is greatly appreciated

Hello & welcome! That’s great you’re starting the healthy lifestyle!

GOOD JOB on soda… that’s a BIG step… :D

If you can, prepare your meals the night before and pack your food with you. Yes, if you have the option to eat before you leave the house then do so. If not, pack your food and eat during the commute. Eating breakfast and eating every 2.5-3 hours will help you speed up your metabolism so DON’T only eat 1-2 meals… Make sure to eat at least 5-6 meals and try to have some kind protein in all of them.
Write down what you eat and when you eat? Maybe we can help you adjust some stuff.

Do have weights, exercise machine… or you just have those tapes?

Soda was big clutch…but I decided I was tired of being 210 pounds so on August 10 I went from about 4 sodas a day to 0 the first two weeks and had 1 per day on the weekends. It was very hard, but I just drank lots of green tea and pictured myself at goal weight in mind every time I wanted a soda. I lost 10 pounds the first 2 weeks…which was probably water weight and from dropping the soda, but it gave me lots of encouragement. The first two weeks I spent about 30-40 minutes each day on the elliptical. On week 3 I started some weights and got discouraged because I gained back 3 pounds that week and then stayed the same the following week.
I realize I was using too heavy of weights which was part of plateau issue and that I needed to do different exercises. So I cut the weights down to lowest and did higher reps and I started HIIT on the treadmill, elliptical and bike…just switching around each day. Doing weights every other day. I think the HIIT training works awesome as the 5th week, I started to lose again. And weight does go up and down, but I am down a solid 15 pounds now at the end of 6 weeks. But it takes a few weeks to get going…as I started with 30-40 minutes and now I am at around 60 minutes every day.
I also changed diet….no fast food. Adding more protein in the mornings…eggs, string cheese…lunch maybe peanut butter sandwich, chicken or fish, or vegetables (peas, green beans) Adding snack times between meals…so now from 2 big meals lunch and dinner to about 6 small daily – (which might be a small snack) usually snacks have been strawberries, an apple, almonds, string cheese, baby carrots, celery or radishes. For dinner…chicken, roast, if I have pasta really cutting portions…but basically just cutting portions is the main thing I have done for dinner. After dinner snack would be almonds, peaches, or something like that.
I really never was much for sweets so that really hasn’t been a problem…most of weight came from sodas and fast food.

Just making some small changes will start giving you results and then just reach for something more each day…for example 5 minutes longer or gradually building speed and hills on the treadmill or elliptical. Cut your portions and drop the soda. I still will have an occasional soda, but if I do I make sure I do an exercise afterwards, such as jump rope. But really I don’t hardly even crave or want it much anymore. I would rather drink lots of water and green tea. And if you hit a plateau, do not give up…because I almost did for those two weeks…but I keep a picture of myself now by alarm in the morning so when I go hit snooze I see that photo and I tell myself I am not going to look like that no more and it really does work.
