Finding time to eat??

Post by Mandehlin »

Hi all,

I'm still new to the forum, and made a topic the last week about wanting to get back into shape... a returning aerobics instructor/new teacher who wants to get back into shape, haha! Well, I just started student teaching this week. The past two weeks I've really been watching what I've been eating, and eating small meals every 3 hours. Because of the schedule change, I'm finding it really hard to find time to eat, or even go to the bathroom, haha. I'm a band teacher so once lessons get going, I'll barely have a lunch hour. Now, I know I could find time to grab something quick during a prep time, etc, so.. in all reality its not a huge issue. I just wanted to know your experiences dealing with this. I work with mostly men who have no sense of a diet or healthy lifestyle. They drink lots and LOTS of coffee, and don't eat (maybe a small lunch) from 7:30-4.. yikes! Sometimes I get tired of explaining (or having to worry about explaining?) WHY i'm eating so often. This sounds so middle school (ironic being AT a middle school) but I hate being the only one feeling like they need to eat?!?! I don't want to look needy and unable to adjust, expecially if we are rushing to get music copied, etc.. but damn, a girl needs some food, haha.

What are your favorite easy to eat foods while on the go (don't really have access to a microwave or fridge--just cooler packs).

THanks! :P

Oh man... I'm so irritated after reading that your dad ate your chicken! HOW RUDE! I think i would seriously throw a fit if somebody ate chicken! I made it CLEAR while i was staying with parents that NOBODY WAS ALLOWED TO EAT FOOD. One of biggest pet peeves: People eating food!... its especially annoying when its somebody who really doesn't care what kind of food that they put in their body and they eat your food because they're bored or because they're just too lazy to go find some of their own. Us health nuts spend a lot of time and money to eat healthy! Its just not nice to eat our food. Next time try putting a friendly little note on your food. maybe something like "eat this and YOU WILL DIE!!!!". I don't know.. maybe thats a bit too extreme?

Lesplease, I am sorry your dad devoured your chicken but I was on the floor laughing at your post! I even read it to husband! Well, girl, I live in a house with three growing boys and a husband who eat EVERYTHING! When they have gone through all the junk healthy food starts looking pretty good. This is why I have a drawer in the fridge with name on it. Open it only if you dare! It is a bummer though when they eat all of the bananas or eggs. Grrrr! I wish I could get own fridge equipped with a combination lock. Getting back to the subject, I do have a hard time finding the time and motivation to eat. Hunger would usually do it but it escapes me. Right now it is 8:45 pm, I have not had dinner and I am not hungry. It will take all I have to get off the couch and force feed myself a piece of chicken! I will do it though because I know body needs it so here I go!

One of biggest pet peeves: People eating food!... its especially annoying when its somebody who really doesn't care what kind of food that they put in their body and they eat your food because they're bored or because they're just too lazy to go find some of their own. X 2!!! This drives me crazy! Whenever I go to a family member's house for dinner, I always bring a dish for everyone else and also own separate healthy meal. It's funny how everyone will make a big deal out not wanting to eat "healthy" food because it's boring, but then they all want to try dinner. Good grief!

I swear, everyone around me is on a "see-food" diet: They see food; they eat it!
THIS DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! About a month ago (when I was still staying with parents) sister and her husband came to visit. When they came they brought cookies, donuts, salt water taffy, bagels... and in preparation parents made sure to have cookies, ice cream, chips, and big fatty steaks on hand. So one night for dinner dad was bbq'ing the big fatty steaks and mom made a very unhealthy cearsar salad. In preparation for the weekend, I made sure to buy own lean beef, plus a BUNCH of veggies. The night that dad bbq'd the big fatty steaks for everybody else, I had him throw healthy ones on the bbq for me and made myself a nice cucumber, onion, and tomatoe vinegar salad so I didn't have to have ceasar salad. As I'm getting steaks off the bbq, everybodys looking at me like "oh why do you get 'special' food while we have to eat this?" and the next thing I know, I go to have some of healthy salad and everybody has pretty much helped themselves. I was so frustrated. :( Here I was limited to certain foods (for contest prep) and nobody else gave a rip what they ate so they ate all their cookies and junk and then ate food too! People make me crazy sometimes. This has to be one of biggest pet peeves!! This... and not to totaly hijack this thread... the stupid 100 calorie "snack packs" that are filled with CRAP. I'm sorry, but 100 calories of crap is still 100 calories of CRAP! I know this is totally random but its been driving me nuts for a few days know.. had to get that off chest.... Phew.. I feel better now...

I laugh at the 100 calories of crap thing. They do something similar here with healthy stuff. They market Cereal Bars with Fruit in, portray them as helping women stop snacking on stuff like Muffins, or Chocolate, because they're filling and only 80 or 90 calories.

If you eat one as a snack, 3 times a day, then even if a woman who doesn't exercise, aims for the 1,800 a day average, they will have to eat roughly 510 calories for Breakfast, lunch and Dinner.

End result, Muscle Catabolism between meals, from lack of Protein, then some excess Calorie conversion to Fat at 2 meals, a little less for Breakfast when Metabolism is higher, so you'd probably end up with a female who is quite slim, but has one of those little droopy pooches that hangs over the belt, and about 1/2" Love handles either side.

Even if the person didn't eat enough calories, like say 1,200 a day. they might possibly look like the person in the ad, really trim, but probably borderline deficient in some minerals, and not as healthy as they could be.

Role on a potential health problem 20-30+ years down the line. Looking like an Anorexic person with 5-10% more Fat on, doesn't automatically make you healthy, because you have a socially acceptable appearance. It's what's inside that counts :).

So basically, never buy into "false pretence" healthy foods. Healthy eating is not torturous hell, that requires a high IQ, and several years at a top educational establishment to understand, (unless you want to understand the totall nitty gritty of foods), but it's also not something you can just manage successfully, by buying a Box of cereal, a piece of Fish, and a few Fruits and Veggies.
