tounament is schedualed for the weekend of the 24th October, in middleton or middletown CT. Lu are you near there?

Had a bit of a set back on monday, well it should have been a set back. I dislocated finger real bad in sparring class. Was the ugliest thing I ever did see. Shihan set it back in place. Now I cannot close hand because of the swelling. Makes holding weights a bit hard so I will do body weight exersices. Last night I went to kickboxing figuring I would skip the left hand punches and replace it with an elbow while doing bag work. That worked out real well and I had a good workout. Tennis this morning was okay but swinging hand around was uncomfortable.

This morning I finally went under 180. I am 179.5, I know, not a big loss but scale seems to not want to move for me latly and it is 1/2 pound closer to goal. Speaking of goals, I changed mine. I wanted to be 135, but I am thinking 150 would be more realistic for body composition.

Don't forget WE are by your side! Tho' not there in person, I and many others here support you and wish you all the best.
I know how it feels to work out alone...it is hard...and can get discouraging at times...but like you said, stay focused and continue to use your journal as your "check-in", letting us in on your progress, or thoughts, how you are feeling, when you need a little boost, or encouragement. You will realize that you are not alone, we got ur back!!

I am so impressed and proud of your growth and achievements in martial arts! I worked up to yellow belt in Taekwondo a couple of years ago. I loved the workouts, they are tough...and sparring was hard on me physically...always bruised up!

Take care of that lump, and your finger and don't let it rock your confidence in your fight abilities. It is a learning experience that will make you stronger and a better fighter in the long run. You go girl!!

Congrats on the 179.5!! :D :D

Last night fight trainer told me that I HAVE to run. He has I need the stamina. I agree but does it have to be running? I would probably dislike anything for endurance though. I was jogging for a bit but when tennis started, I stopped running. Can't do both in the same morning. I didn't like to run anyway.

The heat in Maine has been close to 100 all week and people are melting in the dojo. There are two small vent fans and an open door and that is it for ventilation. People are leaving puddles of sweat everywhere, i am one of them. jammed finger is getting better but I am still throwing elbows instead of jabs with that hand.

One of the guys in the dojo will be fighting MMA in November. I am so excited for him. He will be fighting in CT with me in October too.

I think what your trainer is trying to do is build your aerobic endurance by saying you must run. To be able to work longer and more efficient at a higher heartrate. (don't know the "technical" term for that)
If you don't like to run, then don't. There is nothing worse than forcing yourself to do an exercise that you are not enjoying..you won't stick with it.
Other forms of endurance type exercises are as Nokie said, jumping rope or bike riding, elliptical, lap swimming (definitely kicks butt for building endurance and aerobic conditioning). Power walking may be a good option for you.

You might be talking about Tidal Volume, the amount of Air breathed in and out in one repetition / cycle, or Stroke Volume, the amount of Bloodflow in and out of the Heart at any one moment.

It has been forever since I posted and I am so sorry. I miss coming to the board but I have been training everyday for fight. I was so scared i was going to come home hurt. The monday before fight, i got kicked in the head and was knocked out. I never got kicked in the head before, or knocked out. All week long I was woozy and terrified that it would happen again.

I won first place for kata and second for fighting. I won first fight, the second fight was a lot tougher. The girl I fought second, only had to fight me, less than 4 minutes after first fight. I still fought hard. It went into an overtime round where it was a split decision 3-2 in favor of the other girl :( I was so tired, as you can see in the video I posted below. Maybe exhausted is a better word. Fighting is way more tiring than sparring is. I have to build up endurance.

I am the girl in the black headgear and orange stripe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I7av7dQjlI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Total I am down 70 pounds now. I still have to get pictures done. I am always the one behind the camera, never in front of it. I have to thank all of you on this board that have helped me with stupid questions, or picked me up when I was feeling low. :D
