I did this exercise last week, basically the same form as I'd use for squats but at the top of the movement I feel alot of pressure on knees, am i using poor form?
Since them every once in a while I'm getting a siort of throbbing sensation in knee, should I stop doing this, give it a rest until it sorts itself out or what should I do.
Any help appreciated.
Smith machine calf raises - bad for knees?

You could try what I used to do.
Use a step or a piece of wood, keep the Balls of your Feet, on the Step or wood, Heels hang over the back, and hold the Smith Bar around the Groin area, Arms close to the body as is possible and nearly locked. A lot safer if you slip, and less likely to put pressure on the spine.
Remember to use a Pronated grip, which means the Knuckles should be facing away from the Body.
