Eating at night is not a complete no no, but, again, avoid eating a larger meal. As it gets late, your metabolism slows down, so your body is requiring less calories. as for eating carbs at night, less is better, and you would do well to completely avoid any simple sugars at that time (soda, milk, fruit). If you are trying to lose weight, avoid carbs entirely at night because they will be stored away since you are not likely to be using them. A few carbs are okay if you are building muscle, though.
I'm not saying don't eat. The more often the better. just make sure you are being smart about it.

You can eat some Carbs at night. I do. There's also some correlation between Carbs at night and Seratonin releases, so for some it might help people to sleep.
Eating before bed or close to it is not unhealthy, but as stated before, it's about choices. The body can still burn calories when asleep, but almost certainly I would think it would do it less, than compared to sitting infront of the TV even, as you would be asleep, not processing sights and processing few sounds, so it could be said, metabolic activity would be even less, as Resting Heart Rate could be lower when sleeping, compared to a sedentary awake state.
Comparing something like a Nut Yoghurt about 1 hr before sleep, as opposed to a Quarter Pounder and large Coke, you can see the difference, and obviously one would cause Fat conversion and storage, and almost certainly elevation of Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels, where as the other one would probably not do that, to any extent if at all.
