Whey Protein

Post by wevie »

So I went ahead and bought a big bag of whey protein today. I was going to wait till I got to the weight I wanted but it's only nine pounds so I thought why not.

Anyway, I am lifting on Mon, Wed, and Fri,. Basically full body.

About how much protein should I take in? I also have been eating a protein bar each day with 20grams. I always have one or two turkey sandwiches for lunch. For dinner, it's chicken, fish, or beef most of the time.

The whey I have has 23 grams for one serving and the package says 1 or 2 servings daily with one serving post workout. I think I will drink it with milk so that will be a little more protein.

Can you have too much protein?

Should I wait to lose the 9 or 10 pounds before I start taking it or start?

I was doing cardio 4 or 5 days a week but since I started lifting I cut to 3.

Any advice is appreciated.

If I continue to lose weight the way I am going, it will take at least two months to lose the nine pounds so don't work about that. :D

So just one serving after workout will be OK you think? Should I drink it on days I don't lift and just do cardio or just on the days after I lift?

About how many grams of protein should I be try to consume a day?

Should I consume the same every day or more just on the days I lift?

personally i do two scoops on weights day and one on GPP day. and since i'm on a program to lose weight i add no milk to shake since its a sugar source i don't want to account for.

if i feel the need i might do a table spoon of honey after work out.

i've been doing added protein since i started evolving in april and have lost over fiddy pounds.

i also alternate higher and lower carb days, higher on weights day lower on GPP day.

program is working so far, and loving it!

regards,
Oscar

1 - 1 to 1.5g per pound of bodyweight each day...somewhere in the middle is best

2 - bars are no good, full of rubbish...solid food protein is the way to go

3 - you can onlt assimilate/process about 20g so 2 scoops is wasting your money...go with 1

4 - you can have too much of anything...the kidney thing is bullshit really...it's not just too much protein that's the problem it's also the amount of water you have, what you eat it with (acidity levels) and existing kidney problems (detected/undetected)

5 - if you're doing wts then you should be having a protein shake after it, no matter what size or shape you are

6 - just on days after you lift

I looked at a ton of protein bars and most of them were really bad. At least they looked really bad to me. Tons of sugar, quite a bit of fat, ect. ect. I found this one that has 20 grams of protein. It as very little sugar, and lots of other good stuff. It seems the good out ways the bad in this one. It's a quick way to get a good dose of protein and they taste pretty good.

What do you think?

if there isn't much sugar or fat in it then it's likely packed with artificials which is just as bad as too much of either

i'd stay away from them if you can

Just as Swanson said, take one after your workout and you will be set. I would recommend drinking water with the protein shake instead of milk, water will help with better absorption. After a workout you need that protein quick and by taking it with milk causes it to digest slow

I never knew you can only process 20g at a time. Is it total waste to drink more then? Might have to do a pre and post shake to get all the protein i need then.

I don't know if I can choke it down with water. I thought about adding some fruit with it like banana or strawberry. Does anyone do that?

It tastes kinda bad. I will try with water.

So many different types of protein out there to choose from some taste good some does not. Some is good with water some is not. I use to use milk all the time but once I got use to the water thing I would never go back. If you mix it at the gym and drink it right after your workout it will taste good because you are so thirsty. That’s what I find.
