How can I kill addiction to soda?

Post by syntheticocean »

I'm pretty damn addicted to soda and other sweet beverages. How can I kill the addiction while still keeping tastebuds happy?

Trying only drinking a can of soda after exercise....This will curb the negative impact anyways...

Well I'll give it a shot, but I'm currently drinking 3-4 cans a day and every time I have quit, even gradually, I get extreme migranes from the caffeine withdrawl.

Just taper off them...

week 1. 4 cans
week 2 3 cans
week 3 2 cans
week 4 1 can

and viola!

1 - go without for 28 days and you'll be fine, it takes 28 days to change a behaviour

2 - diet may be zero cal's but 100000 articificals

I had the caffeine issue in college. Well, I had migraines so I treated them with caffeine, and various triptans, but it didn't seem to work. I ditched the caffeine and they got a LOT worse. Try tapering off, and knocking your diet and exercise around a bit. Endorphins are natural pain killers (:
I started one of the diet threads.

I'm not sure if drinking it right after exercise is a good idea. Isn't this when your body needs nutrients for muscle recovery and you're feeding it liquid crap? I used to drink soda also, I made it a point to not drink it for the summer and hopefully I will keep off of it for the rest of life!!! There are just so many other options.

I just read a lot of articles about how bad soda was for you (rusts nails, coke: best toilet cleaning agent, rots/stains teeth, etc.) and that TOTALLY helped me get off of it.

I used to mix half fruit flavored soda (like orange) with water so I would drink only half the crap, lol. Like half water half orange soda. brother also was addicted to soda and he also did sports. He kept saying that he was tired especially after he had had soda that day, so I reminded him eveytime I could that it was the soda's fault (I actually didn't know if this was true) but he stopped drinking it and his performance improved and the way he felt also improved as well.

Okay I will probably start a corn syrup debate, but I think things made with corn syrup make you want more even when you are full. Try soda made with pure cane sugar and when you really, really want one, drink a glass of water first, wait 10 minutes and then have the soda until you are satisfied, put it away until next time you need a . Maybe you are really just thirsty and the signal you brain gives you is to have soda because that is where your body is used to getting hydrated from.

If you're drinking it 3-4cans/week, I wouldn't be as worried if you're drinking it 3-4/day....

Personally, back in time I cut back in soda drinking (Pepsi/dew/coke..etc)...But now i literally drink it everyday, sometimes twice.

I'd advice you -

Not to buy it as a start. Don't buy it in bulks if you know what I mean, limit yourself to ONE can per day when you have your worst migraine ...I don't think Soda helps with headache? I drink it cuz I like the way it tastes with "all foods"

Go to the less damaging soda's...like 7up, Sprite instead of coke/pepsi...

No body can just cut soda in one day.
