Hi everyone,
I'm 33 year old from Chicago,I have always wanted to be muscular but never really had enough determination to do it.
So I've got back to the gym in last couple months and I want to see results.
I'm 6'1,about 205lbs,I have a little watermelon stomach but nothing terrible,I tend to eat healthier and I do take protein supplements.
Here is problem,I get to the gym and I simply don't know what to do,I will train on couple machines,I tend to see some results but then I'm not satisfied with it,I work out for about 35-40 minutes because I get tired and want to go home.
There are times when I'm just wondering around,I would appreciate a word from someone who maybe had similar experience.
chest is shaping up nicely but I need to catch up on arms,I feel like an idiot writing this but I had to do it.
Thank you for your help.
I'm just simply confused

Thank you for your reply,Packard wrote:I'm a little surprised that the gym does not have instructors that will create a workout for you. Have you requested that assistance? All the gyms I've ever joined had beginners, intermediate and advanced programs that they promoted.
I work out in ... Planet Fitness, this place doesn't have any competent staff that I would trust even cleaning up a bench,I pay only $10 a month so I get minimal.
The one I'm attending is "managed" in the evening by some brain dead kids and I don't think either one of them cares but there is a GRUNT LIGHT ALARM on the wall.Lesplease wrote:The one I linked was Nov '06. It got a LOT of publicity, and a lot of people came out in support of that guy, since evidently even breathing slightly irregular (heavier than at rest i guess?) is enough to set them off. The very idea of a "Lunk Alarm" cracks me up.
Not a big plan of the place but it's either this or $60 at 's,money is tight lately.
Thanks,I think I just need to re-evaluate what I'm doing wrong, focus and devote more of mind and heart into it.Lesplease wrote:I was at a Bally's in uptown, about three blocks from place when I was there. I wasn't that impressed, which was sad since the membership was so expensive. I think mine was 75$ at the time.
In any event, there are a LOT of posts around here that you can look at and explore. Anything you don't understand you can either google, youtube, or ask about. Have fun!!
's might be more then $70 by me as well.
I provided this link in Nov. '08:Boss Man wrote:When was that, as there was something posted the back end of last year about that, but that's all I can find.Lesplease wrote:Planet Fitness is silly. I posted an article about their grunting policy in the open chat forum.

Did you come up with any re-evaluation ideas? What is your goal? The one and only fitness goal you have?
Fitness and exercise can feel like staring up the side of a mountain you're not ready to climb. Keep this in mind, something I learned in school was that diet is going to be 80% of your results. You mentioned that you had a little watermelon, but nothing drastic around the midsection. I am confident that you didn't acquire that by eating chicken brocolli and brown rice 3 x a day.
Once you get around the discipline of diet (says cookie monster) you'll be able to start to achieve your goal through a workout plan (those are easy to provide).

There is a picture of me in the profile,if I suck the stomach in you can't tell;-)
Diet is really not problem,I do eat a lot and I love food,Chicago has so many temptations but I need to eat healthier, leaner, smarter no question about it.
I just need to stay focus on goal and at this point would be gaining muscle mass on arms and then working out on definition.
I just need to come up with a plan and stop doing anything chaotic in the gym, yesterday was a solid day for me,I might be too anxious to see results ASAP with little effort, just weakness of human nature.
So I'm going to start by putting a solid work out plan and diet.
I'm a deep dish slutMikey78 wrote:Hey brother, keep trucking!
BTW I love Chicago. I was born on the South Side and like me some Home Run Inn Pizza whenever I'm in town. Chicago isn't the best place to quell your food demons, but a place rather to enjoy them. If I can provide anything I would suggest to google "superfoods" and "glycogen" that should give you a reference if you ever need one.

Thank you for your input and help,I appreciate it.
condo on Long Island was not far from a commercial bread bakery. When I would walk dog at 6:00 a.m. I'd walk by the bakery. Perfume!Lesplease wrote:There was a pizza place in building. They turned on the ovens at 2 everyday and hallway smelled like pizza..
That is the one thing I really miss after move from Long Island. The smell of yeast cooking is just food- for me.
out of confusion
Here is what was said, "Here is problem,I get to the gym and I simply don't know what to do,I will train on couple machines,I tend to see some results but then I'm not satisfied with it,I work out for about 35-40 minutes because I get tired and want to go home.
I've definitely had this experience. Here is what I've learned since. To get out of any confusion, you have to find out where you are. By going back to the machines, you're attempting to do that. The machines are your tools, and you're attempting to find out how to use them. Keep doing so, and you'll not only be more able to communicate with those tools, but with others about about it. You can then move on to finding out who you are. This includes deciding if you want to do homework on your muscles, mechanisms or setting up targets. Which are you aware of most?
The point is, you ARE having success because as you said, " chest is shaping up nicely but I need to catch up on arms." By acknowledging your gains, you're beginning to add up more pluspoints and increasing your odds of success. If your chest is shaping up nicely, then you're probably working out some lower muscles in your arms. (See http://www.getbodysmart.com for anatomy detail.)
These increase your stability and make thin looking individuals like me give thanks for endurance. Three months from now, what would be the use of bulk from the top big muscles with no support? It's muscle on top of flab. So look at what's needed to get the bigger muscles going, without abandoning work on the smaller ones.
