I have not had any luck finding Tahini yet at our local Walmart grocery. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? I saw some Almond Butter on the Peanut Butter aisle and was wondering if that is what everyone keeps raving about? I would like to try it, but it is a bit pricey, I'll have to wait until I can splurge a little with the food budget. Wait a minute!! Since I'm not buying the diet cokes anymore maybe I can allow for it!
Would Almond butter work in place of tahini or peanut butter, or does sound totally gross? Having never tried either one I'm in the dark about it.
you don't 'have' to have tahini in hummus. I think it makes it taste better but it is still good without it. I( don't think I'd substitute almond butter for it.
Thanks! I was wondering if it was essential or could get by without it. I bought a can of chick peas and am all set to try to make first batch using a modified version of Katie's recipe. But I will hold off on the Almond Butter ($4 a jar!!).

I know it's an old thread and it's WAY after the 4th of July holiday, but I make a hummus type filling and use it instead of the yolks for devilled eggs. I'm a sucker for devilled eggs and these are great nutrition.
