The problem with worrying so much about the fat is that as you continue to diet down in an attempt to get rid of the fat, youre shoulder blades are only going to contnue to stick out further and the rest of your body is going only get "skinnier". If you add muscle instead the fat will be taken care of in the process, or atleast won't be as noticable if you have more mass on the rest of your body.
As for protein... I guess I don't know what to tell you martin. I can't do this for you and have enough on plate to figure out how to get you to eat more protein. Two of favorite sayings are "If its to be its up to me" and "where theres a will theres a way". Nobody can do this for you. You could shoot for 153 grams and even if you fall a bit short you'll still be doing great. Howver, at this point you're still not getting consistant amounts of protein with breakfast... which just happens to be (in opinion) one of the most important meals of the day. Instead of saying "I would like to but just don't think i can" you could try a different approach such as "I really want this so i'm going to do everything in power do get it done".
Unfortionately I can't acess that picture because i'm at work and that site is blocked.

Did weight training today, put the max weights held on, bout 5kg on each dumbell, and found it really quite hard. Should i be able to lift more? I couldn't do as many sets and sweated alot easier this time.
I also keep feeling sick during the weights. I have to stop now and then to have a drink, but apart from that i keep feeling really ill?

There is no set amount that you should be lifting Martin. Everybody is at a different fitness level and has different strenghts and weaknesses. If its difficult for you to lift then you should be fine. It should NOT be easy to lift and you should NOT be able to do any more than 12-15 reps at a time. If you can, increase the weight so you can't do as many reps.
Sometimes I feel a bit ill when Im lifting too. In fact yesterday during workout I really felt like I was going to throw up. It could have to do with how hard your working or I suppose it could also have to do with whether or not youre eating right before working out. If I eat a large meal before working out I definitely get sick to stomach.

Thanks for that. So, should i continue as im doing? Cardio day again, tomorow, don't feel too well, bit under the weather, that could of had to do with me not being able to do as much cardio yesterday.

Just another thing Cassie, did you see this message, sorry if you already have, im just wondering if you had any suggestions?
Just something i have to mention, soon i might be going away for a few days or maybe a bit longer, with a couple of mates, now were not exactly good cooks or anything, so what if the foods on the few nites for dinner and all were sort of junk - chip shop.
What other alternatives can i find without making a big deal about it.

Sorry you're feeling under the weather. If you're not feeling well tomorrow take the day off. Exercising when sick is typically not a good idea. Rest up and feel better.
As for your upcoming trip with friends... Try to eat the same things that I have mentioned before. If you can't find things like chicken, eggs, fish, oatmeal... just try to make the healthiest choices possible. Try to pick sandwiches instead of burgers, wheat bread over white, grilled chicken/steak/fish instead of fried, baked potatoes instead of french fries, and veggies whenever possible. Try to stay away from soda, and opt for water instead. You might even pack some foods to take with you so you have access to healthier options. This past weekend I went camping with best friend and packed a huge cooler full of food so I wouldn't have to worry about eating unhealthy. You could also put a few scoops of that protein powder in a container and take some of that along to ensure that you're getting adequate amounts of protein. Its best to eat solid forms of protein, however there are times when solid sources (chicken, fish, meat, low fat cheese) aren't available and you must use protein powder instead.
I hope you have a great time with your friends Martin!... and I hope you feel better tomorrow. :)

Thanks alot Cassie, hopefully il feel better, perhaps taking some foods is a good idea, if i ever get sodas or cokes i always make sure there no calories and sugar added.
I will try best with food choices hopefully things will work out alright.

Another thing i feel is important to bring to attention is, that mum, dad and brothers seem to think im too thin? I don't think im thin at all, however someone said to me once before that i may have a body disorder, always thinking the worst and stuff, however i don't think im even thin, but then again 10 and a half stone for a 17 year old isn't exactly heavy. As long as the fat goes and i put on muscle i don't mind and that im healthy.

Martin,
I first read you message last night but felt like I should sleep on this one before coming back with an answer. Eating disorders and body image disorders can be extremely touchy subjects so I'm going to be as kind, and as honest as i can here.
The reason why I've been suggesting lately that you focus less on counting calories and focus more on building some lean mass is because I was beginning to wonder if you may have some kind of body image disorder as well. This is also the reason why I've been suggesting less cardio and more weight training for you and why I've been pushing for you to get more protein in your diet. I'm not one to go around pointing fingers or judging before I know the whole truth... I also know how touchy these kinds of things can be so wasn't going to come right out and say that I think you have a problem... instead I was trying to subtly encourage you to focus less on that fat, and focus more on putting on some lean mass.
Please don't feel like I (or anybody else) am picking on you.. or judging you in any way. I am not, and as always, simply want to help you. I haven't told you this yet, but when i was about your age (16) I developed a very serious eating/image disorder and ended up becoming very ill as a result of it. At that time I had a lot going on in life and had an extremely low self esteem. There was so much going on in life that I couldn't control and for some reason I thought that if I lost a bit of weight I would feel better about myself and it would improve the others things going on. When I first decided to lose weight, I only wanted to lose 10 pounds. I decided to do this by exercising more and tightening up diet. In no time I had lost that weight and started getting attention from others around me. It seemed to me that I felt so good losing that 10 pounds, that if I lost 5 more I would feel even better... so I lost another 5lbs... then another 5... then another 5... each time telling myself that I would feel all better if I only lost 5 more pounds. Also, as I was trying to lose "just 5 more pounds" I would look in the mirror and I honestly felt like i needed to lose 5 more pounds... even when i was deathly skinny I still felt like I needed to lose 5 more pounds to feel better. When I looked in the mirror I saw myself as being much fatter than I actually was. In the end, I lost a great deal of weight and became extremely ill. dad gave me the option of either getting better on own, or he said he would send me away to a special place for people who starve themselves (bascially a hospital for eating disorders). At that point I decided to get better and have been working on overcoming disorder since that time.
The reason that I have been concerned about you lately is because you appear overly concerned about that stomach fat, yet you also tell me that your shoulder blades are sticking out. It makes me wonder if perhaps when you look in the mirror you migh see yourself differently than you truly are. This is nothing to be ashamed of... image disorders and eating disorders are actually extremely common.... however I do believe it is something that needs to be addressed. As I have suggested many times throughout this thread, I TRULY believe you need to focus less on calories and more on properly fueling your body. I believe you do not need to do all that cardio, and instead focus on weight training and building some muscle. Yes, cardio is a good thing and you can keep doing it as it does have many benefits. HOWEVER, if you are going to do it I would not do it every day, in fact i would not do it any more than 1-2 times per week and if you are going to do it you must make sure that you're eating enough calories. I realize that you are concerned about eating healthy and i understand that you don't want to be fat. This is why I've been suggesting healthy foods for you to eat... so you can still eat but do so in a way that will help you to gain some weight in the form of muscle instead of fat.
Does this make sense? Again, please don't feel like I am pointing fingers or judging you. I'm just a bit concerned about you and want to make sure you remain healthy. :) I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way... Just trying to be honest here.

Cassie
Don't worry, i don't feel like im being picked on, id rather hear the truth. However, i don't feel that i have a eating disorder, because i do eat, and farily healthy i hope.
There's something i also haven't mentioned before, when mum was young, she was anarexic. I don't know if this could of had an affect on me but i thought id point that out. I mean, i look in the mirror, and you can see parts of body like ive mentioned before shoulder blades sticking out, collier bones (at top of chest) and ribs etc. However, the fat is still there which is making me continue to try and lose it. I can't even go out in a T-Shirt, i feel that bad about it. I really dislike it. However, when i touch fat, most of it is solid, like muscle inside, but it's a lot of loose skin also, kinda like it being flabby, but like i said it's solid, but u can grab the skin as it being loose. Kind of hard to explain, i hope ive made some sense.
I mean i don't want to have no fat on me at all. I want to have a 6 pack, ive made up mind now, i want to be a bit musclely, not a massive bodybuilder, but a bit musclely and with a 6 pack if possible id like to put in even more work, but saying that it would be like starting over? And that would mean over the past month it's been a waste of time for me, which i could of been working on this?
I mean i do eat well enough i belive, even other day, i was out with friends and they all got kfc, and i was hungry too, so i bought some, i would look silly not eating nothing sitting next to them all when i was hungry anyway. But yet again i was concerned about what i had eaten and did weight training when i got back but however i also did 30mins on the stationary bike slowly.
And here's something i really need to mention, i never feel full of energy, and i haven't done for some time, i wish i did, but it just seems like im not, i really would like some muscle and a 6 pack, however you need to lose the fat for the 6 pack? I don't want to make body look even odder with some parts being boney some not. mum and brothers tell me im looking skiny, but i just don't see it, because i can feel the fat with hand and i can see it, it is there, im not imaging it.
I just really want this to work out, im sorry if it seems like i keep being negative on things, spose that's part of who i am. I would like to get a 6 pack and muscley around chest area as im really embarrased bout it and decent sized arms.
For example today, i don't feel well, got a cold but im still focused on achieving goal so it didn't stop me.
I woke up, had special k cereal for breakfast, it's with strawberry and choc pieces. Was real nice.
Lunch i had a can of meatballs, 2 slices of toast with peanut butter.
Around 3pm had a protein shake. Was still lumpy though after i stired it and made me feel sick yet again after?
Then spent 52 minutes on stationary bike burning 1000 calories according to that but i doubt it's anywhere near. And dinner is soon but not sure what yet.
Sorry to go on Cassie and i hope i haven't been much bother, what would you suggest i do from here?

Martin,
No need to apologize.
No, you would not be starting over at all. You have been given a great deal of information and you are already on a good exercise routine. Hopefully by now you have a good idea of what exercises to do and what foods to be eating (although you're still not eating protein with breakfast for some reason). Keep in mind Martin, living and learning is never a waste of time. We learn by experimenting and by gaining experience from the things we do. This past month you have worked hard and I believe you have made progress even though you probably don't realize that you have. Now, lets re-focus and work on gaining some muscle.
As for your mom having an eating disorder when she was younger... I beleive those things are definitely hereditary. I believe mother (even though she won't admit it) also had an eating disorder. Growing up, her parents were extra critical about her weight and appearance and that greatly affected her confidence. When I was growing up, mothers parents and mother were all extra critical about me and weight... again, their words affected self esteem and body image. I'm not saying that your mother has done the same thing to you in any way as I obviously don't know your mother... however I do beleive that these traits can be passed down.
Ok... so turning over a new leaf now. Lets focus on muscles instead of fat! Wanting to put in more work is great, however we need to be careful a we don't want to go overboard and have you overtrain. I've already given you advice on how to gain muscle... its no different now friend. For breakfast, you really need protein there. I would have eggs with that cereal or whatever other kind of protein you can scrounge up. How many hours are between breakfast and lunch? If its three hours or less then youre fine, however if its more than 3 you need something between those meals (protein and carb). Lunch looks good with the meatballs, bread and peanut butter... actually that looks great! Around 3pm... Did you have the protein with water or milk? If you're only having a protein shake have it with milk. Its making you sick to your stomach? I wonder why that is? Hmm.. Is it because you don't like the taste or the fact that it has lumps or is it actually making your stomach feel uneasy? I would have another meal after dinner as well... just to make sure you're getting enough calories... keep that meal clean though.. some form of protein and veggies would be great.
52 minutes on the bike is quite alot. How many days a week are you doing cardio? Weights?
As for you not feeling like you have enough energy, you may not be getting enough calories... and that could be why you don't have much energy. You REALLY need to focus on eating every 2-3 hours and eat ATLEAST 2000 calories a day... Protein with EVERY meal.
No need to apologize.

I had the protein shake with milk, and it made me feel sick for some reason, may of been because of the lumps not sure maybe its the protein shake? Also, i realise i need to be eating alot of protein, but i don't want to go overboard all of a sudden.
For example, after dinner mum has made crumble, with apple, blackberrys and some other fruits in them. I haven't had none yet though. And not sure if i should.
It is hard to get alot of protein and eat alot often living under your parents roof im not gonna lie. For breakfast, i sometimes have 3 boiled eggs, with a slice or 2 of bread. However, i don't like to eat eggs everyday as it might upset stomach, and don't want too eat too much of anything.
I always try and find meals that are most protein as i can, but yet i still don't think i reach 155gs or however of protein, it just seems so much. If i get hungry inbetween a meal, i usually have a fruit, or snack on stuff which is usually ok, wheat thin crackers, cup of milk etc.
And i have been doing cardio 3 times a week. Weight lifting for approx 30mins 3 times a week. Finding it harder now though as i have the max mass of the weights possible as ive had this set for years. (5kg) on each dumbell. Not bad i suppose, but yeah, any advice you could give me, please bear in mind i do want to still get rid of this bellyfat/loose skin/ unattractive look at the bottom of stomach.
Also dinner cooked by parents as they make the dinner. 2 Pieces of roast chicken, some oven baked chips and the vegetables peas come in, forgot name.
Thanks again

Hmm.. It could be something in the protein shake that is upsetting your stomach. I've heard of certain types of protein disagreeing with some peoples stomaches.
Could you talk to your parents and tell them that you would really like to gain some muscle? It sounds like they are concerned about you right now. I would think that if you told them that you want to start eating healthy in order to put on some muscle they might be willing to help you out. I wouldn't worry too much about eating eggs every day. I eat 1 whole egg and 6 egg whites every day. I also have chicken, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and the same veggies every day. Variety is great, however if you can't get a wide variety of food then just do the best that you can. If you have to eat eggs every day to get more protein with breakfast then that is fine... They shouldn't upset your stomach. If you can't get 155 grams of protein per day then shoot for 150... if you can't get 150 then shoot for 140. Just get as much as you can and try not to get hung up on the numbers too much.
For the cardio... I would cut it down to 1 or 2 days a week. For weights... you can stick to 3 times per week or bump it up to 4 times per week. Make weights a priority. Are you doing pushups and utilizing the pull up bar? Pushups will work your triceps and chest and pullups will work your back and biceps. Are you saying that you feel like you need heavier weights?
Dinner looks great!

Do you think i should stop taking the protein shake then? Ive only had it about 4 times but from what i can remember most of them times ive felt sick after. And 24grams of protein, without the added milk so it's probably about 30grams of protein is a big source when i take it to daily intake of protein. Like i mentioned before, i don't want to just overdose body on protein so soon, it might affect health right?
As for the protein, spose i could try eggs every day. Ive told mum and dad that i want to put on some muscle and they don't have a problem with that, after all mum bought some oatmeal cereal, peanut butter, wheat thin crackers and stuff like that specifically because i asked her.
I have been using the pull up bar and doing push ups, but i don't have much of a routine for them, just been doing them now and then, for example, if i walk past the pull up bar i try to do as many as i can. Or if i feel like doing push ups i do 10 or so. For the pull up bar, ive been doing mainly chin ups, and can do about 6 or 7 of these. Pull ups are really hard for me to do and i can't spread arms right out as they won't fit on the bar. Also when doing pull ups, i get blisters on hands, ive put ducktape on the bar to help reduce the risk but i still seem to be getting them.
How many calories should i be eating a day, keeping in mind, i want a 6 pack, so will need to lose the fat? And get muscley round chest area and fairly big arms. But not too muscely, if that makes sense.
What other foods can you recommend for me that would probably suit routine? Sorry if im making you repeat yourself Cassie and thanks again.

I've never heard of anybody overdosing on protein... well unless you are eating like 300 plus grams a day... I don't think you can OD on 30 grams. You could try doing only a half of a scoop with milk and see what happens. Keep in mind that protein isn't like cocain or alcohol.. it is quite hard to overdose on. Having 30 grams of protein at one sitting is not going to affect your health... well other than helping you build some muscle.
That is GREAT that you're parents are supporting you! I'm very glad about that! Yes, try to do more eggs since you know how to cook them.
I would do a more regimented routine for the pullups and pushups to ensure that you're doing enough. Maybe do 3 or 4 sets and do as many as you can for each set. Vary the pushups by spreading hands our wider, then narrower, then putting your hands in a triangle shape, then putting your feet on something (like a step) then putting your hands on somethign (again like a step). This will hit your muscles at different angles. For the pullups, do them with palms facing in, then palms facing away, then wide grip (as wide as possible) then narrow. The blisters should get better with time... in a few months you should have callouses which will help with te blisters. Until then, just toughen up a bit and you'll be fine.
I'm not going to repeat myself on the calories or the foods Martin. I've already answered those questions... in fact I already told you TODAY how many calories you need. Go back and re-read the previous posts.
