Eggs, eggs, eggs. These are a great source of protein and are quite affordable (stick to the whites primarily with one or two yolks a day). Also, have you tried tilapia? Its another affordable protein. Also, cottage cheese is a good choice as well.

Hope this helps!

Might be able to have Low Fat Cheese possibly, or Powdered Flax and Peanuts.

Brent I still can't believe that you put salmon in your cottage cheese. For some reason I just can't wrap brain around that one.

Hmmm... for the bar... you would most likely need some eggwhites in there to help them bake better. Try mixing the all bran minis (you might have to crunch them up quite a bit), 6-8 eggwhites, salmon chunks, and a bit of cottage cheese (not sure how well the cottage cheese is going to bake though. Might make them too watery?). Orrrr you could just mix the all bran minis (crunched up), eggwhites, and salmon and bake that then add the cottage cheese afterwards? Who knows. You could also add some oatmeal in there as i'm not sure how well those all bran things are going to bake. let me know how those turn out. :)

Don't worry about the Salmon Cheese Cassie, I've heard of some bodybuilders making Protein shakes with Tuna. That's something I can't fathom.

I mean uggh, uggh. I think if life absolutely depended on it, I'd rather just drink the Brine and forgo the Tuna. I mean there can't be that much Mercury in Brine can there .

Hmmm well if you can make pancakes with then i don't see why you couldn't make bars?

So there you go brent... tweaking the recipe provided by katie you could do something like:

1/2 cup ff cottage cheese
1/2 cup oatmeal
3 egg whites
salmon
1/2 cup all bran minis
a dash of baking powder
spices to taste

Oohh you could also put this in muffin cups and bake it and see how that works?

Brent... if you do try it please let me know what you think. I don't think it would be something that I could get down, however if you like the , all bran, and salmon together this might just work for you. ;)

I've been reading a few of these posts, and I have to ask: WHERE'S THE BEEF! Nobody here mentions beef as a protein source!

I usually mention lean beef as a protein source. Beef is an EXCELLENT source of protein (as long as its lean)... It is favorite source of protein. However you'll notice that the topic for this thread is "protein on a tight budget". It has been experience that beef is often more expensive than other forms of protein. This past weekend I purchased some lean sirloin steaks and paid $9 for 4 small steaks. Typically when I purchase chicken I can buy a package of 6 frozen breasts for around $6... more food for less money. Also eggs are less than $2 for 18 large eggs. Tiliapia can be purchased from Wal-Mart for about $3 for 6 fillets. A large container of cottage cheese (8 servings) can be purchased for around $3 from local stores. This is why I was suggesting other forms of protein over beef (for this post). I do agree with you though, lean beef is a great source of protein... however it can be more expensive than other forms. :)

Yes it can, unless you buy the stewing steak kind of Beef, and that, may be more fattier than something like Topside.
