I have other deadlift stories and they are all good (all about picking up cars). No other exercise ever resulted in similarly notable stories.

Hey Howard,

I've used your story to start another discussion topic. I hope to get a few laughs out of it.

For some people, new exercises will promote DOMS, as Packard says, but in time it will dissipate.

Had you done anything serious, I would have expected you to complain of something like a sharp, shooting or stabbing pain, or possibly a very bad discoloured patch somewhere on the lower back, consistant with some kind of Muscle or connective Tissue tear, triggered by some kind of mistake when you Deadlifted.

The fact you mentioned some discomfort or stiffness, would lead me to think you just got some DOMS.

One way you'd know it's DOMS, is if you keep getting the urge to rub it better

I took three days to recover from deads and felt great the next time I did them. I went down from 135lbs to 115lbs and felt like I could them just fine without much effort, but I wanted to go easy and not overstrain back. Today I did deads again started with 115 (8reps) then 125(8 reps) and 135(8reps). I was out of breath on the last set but it felt great!!! I didn't feel any pain.

Oh, and I have good news to share. I was able to do pull ups for the first time in life!!! I did 2, which isn't a lot but I did them after a hard arm workout, so I will try to do some tomorrow before workout and see how many I can actually do. Just doing one gave me a big smile :D . I can see that upper body strength is definately getting better.

Do you mean Chin Ups, or the ones where you pull yourself up, until the Bar support is behind your Neck.
