Hey guys, I've been eating frozen vegetables for a while now and I'm just wondering if they are bad for me.
The reason I ask is because yesterday a friend of mine told me that when she was studying about this stuff, she told me not to eat frozen vegetables anymore because they are bad for me. I should make fresh over frozen.
But I love frozen vegetables because they are so easy to make and barely any cleanup afterwards.
The ingredients for these vegetables are carrots, corn, peas, green beans, and salt. What can be so bad about that?
Frozen is a preservation technique, that may not guarantee as much quality, as Fresh.
Fresh may not last as long, but there might be a possibility that frozen food could be affected in some way, I can't say for certain how that would be. It's possible some of the water content, could be frozen, meaning thawing would not put it back, as the dead matter would have no way to absorb it through osmosis.
Plus fresh may be less likely to have deteriorated, than frozen per se, as it may be the case that frozen plant matter, could be in a less benefical state at the point of freezing.
That's what I would say, but I'm not 100% certain on this. However did the person in question illucidate on their comments more in-depth, with some kind of regurgitated scientific reasoning or basis?
I think if the frozen vegetables are 100% vegetables with no additives or preservatives they should be fine as long as they were fresh when they were frozen. If you pick a vegetable and let it sit for a long period of time it looses some of it's nutritional value. It deteriorates and looses nutrients. So frozen would be better than fresh if the fresh was not "fresh picked" But if the fresh vegetables were picked and eaten while still fresh they would be better. I would like to see evidence or some literature on what makes frozen "bad" for you.
I personally choose fresh almost always but when it is not available I use frozen.
Actually no. friend did not elaborate further on the topic. Yea I do realize that fresh is definitely better than frozen. But lately I've been having some few extra things on hand and I don't have as much time making the food, I gotta make it all myself. So I just buy frozen. But I'm still losing weight, I've been eating these frozen veggies for over a month and I'm still losing weight. But I would hate to find out that all of a sudden frozen vegetables are bad for body, if it's bad, then I will stop and have to rearrange time better.
There isn't anything you should really worry about with frozen veggies. If you're still seeing progress and buying frozen makes that progress for you easier, then I'd say don't worry. Though fresh
