How do I keep myself from gettting jealous?

Post by rockchick_82808 »

Whenever I don't reach weight loss goal for the month I start to notice the fit girls around me at gym and get discouraged. It eventually makes me leave the gym earlier than what I wanted. How can I stop this habit?

Don't be jealous. Just realise you'll be like that one day too. Train to look like you want to, not like they want to. Even if you have similar goals, why should they affect how you feel?

It's not like you'd make them feel like that if you were the way they sound, so don't worry about it. If they're not even giving you hassle, or being rude, then you don't really have anything to worry about.

Sounds like making a mountain out of a molehill.

You'll be fine, honestly :).

You've already lost some weight, and your picture clearly shows great genetics. So when you reach your target, I'm sure you'll look spectacular.

Be proud of yourself, not negative okay :).

I know it is hard not to compare yourself to other women. We all do it. But instead of letting their bodies or achievements DIScourage you, can you try to use it to ENcourage you? You have already gone from an 18 to a 16. That is amazing. You seem to be on a great path. Don't aim to be LIKE those other women as far as "size" but do aim to be as strong and healthy as they are. Even if you have not met your goal for the month, give yourself kudos...YOU ARE THERE....AT THE GYM! Everyone, I don't care who they are, has set backs and bumps in the road. Fight the urge to leave early. And if you do...don't beat yourself up. You were still there, you worked out! Stop by here, read a good article or two, say hi and tomorrow will be a new day. :D

Never forget....YOU CAN DO IT! :)

Thank u so much for ur encouragement. I wish I knew this site exhisted a long time ago! Lol. I have been trying much harder this time around to keep pushin myself and not let self get beat up over every little thing. If I ate a single candy bar I would flip out and tell myself how weak I am. Not anymore, its ok to indulge once in a while.

Thank u to everyone who has and in the future help me along the way. I really like this site. Everyone here is so nice to one another. I look forward to getting to know ya'll (the lil hick in me came out for a moment lol).

Hi & Welcome to the Site!

Letting yourself have a cheat day is totally ok. It will actually help you control your cravings and not deprive you from little things in life.

About being jealous of those fit looking chicks in the gym… I understand!
I used to be like that… I slacked off and got lazier… but… when I really though about it… They had to start somewhere to make them look so good? They can be working their butts off for years while I was gaining weights. Now I’m trying to lose weight while they looking fit…. And one day of course… I know I can work way there to not only be fit looking… but actually healthy!

Like others mentioned above…. Use that as a motivation. You are starting and you can look that way too! You already lost some… good job! Keep going.. a goal is to have for you to reach… so… it might take a bit longer or sometimes it might be reached a bit faster… But don’t stop aiming for it! :D

Hi, Glad you are here!

I totally understand how you feel about getting discouraged at the gym. I have struggled with self esteem issues and one of the hardest places to control that is at the gym surrounded by these fit, toned, tiny girls!
I would be jealous of the cute little outfits they wore while I covered myself in baggy t shirts and long shorts. But I kept working, getting stronger, losing weight and getting fit. And I realized that while I may never be as tiny as them or have all the latest sports bras and spandex I could probably out lift, out run and out work the best of them!!
So, don't let that mindset affect your weight loss goals. Stay focused and when you go to the gym remember that you are there for YOU, this is YOUR time to workout, concentrate on getting the best workout you can while you are there and feel proud of the effort you are giving. Don't compare yourself to others, just focus on being the best and healthiest you can be for you.
All the hard work and commitment will pay off not only with a healthier body, but also a healthier mind that is confident and happy to be in the skin you are in! :D :D :D
Good luck to you, I wish you all the best...keep us updated on your progress.

thank you ladies for your kind words. I took it to heart what you had said it really did help put me into a better mind set. When I went there today...all I did was look forward and ignore what was around me. I kicked some major butt on the cardio because of it. I stayed patient and used all the machines I wanted to today and left when I felt I was done instead of leavin early bc of what i saw then beat self up for doing that! lol. good grief.

That is good to read. A healthy lifestyle should be just that, emotionally and mentally healthy too, otherwise it's not a lifestyle that can remain consistant, and be healthy.

This step, will really help you to progress :).

Rockchick,

Hey Girl! Welcome to our site...notice I say "our" because that's exactly what you'll find here. Support from people who know what your going through and the understanding and wisdom to help you get through those emotional roller coaster days. At one point, I believe that we all suffer from "gosh I wished like that chick syndrome" It's human. We see these painfully skinny runway models all over the cover of magazines, commercials out the wazoo with thin, beautiful bodies and we say...wow...I wish I could be that lucky. There comes a point though, that we just need to understand that we need to embrace ourselves and the hard work we put forth to achieve goals we set for ourselves. Think of it as a personal mission, a gift you are giving to yourself in order to have a healthy body.

I see this chick at the gym every morning and she's a cardio bunny, never picked up a weight in her life and she's thin and beautiful and all the guys just drool when she walks by, hell I even drool when she walks by. There was a time when I was filled with envy because it just never looked like she worked out all that hard to be that thin and look as fit as she did in her workout attire. And man was that unfair! I saw her out one night with her friends drinking up a storm and then headin' out to the parking lot to light up her smokes. It made me gag. I just wanted to grab her and tell her, "how can you be this stupid?? Women envy you, men worship the ground you walk on and this is how you treat your body? You do realize that you keep downing those beers and shoving those smokes in you body that when your 40 like me your gonna look more like 50 and it's not gonna be as easy to just hop on that elliptical for 30 minutes and shed those extra lbs. Ahh to be young and carefree. Sometimes looks can be deceiving and it's not all what it's cracked up to be.

Embrace your body, love who you are knowing that you are making a conscious effort toward a healthy lifestyle. I have seen your profile pictures and you have come along way. Continue to strive to do your best and the benefits will be priceless. Good luck to you and all your endeavors!

I don't drool, it's embarrassing. Besides the moisture retention is better for enhancing performance .

Its funny how u mention how apperances can be decieving. I remember when I was back in school I use to have a tai bo tape at home. Itransfered 2 a new school and the gym teacher had us do a video simuliar to the one I have. I was the only girl left doin the video given it was a tai bo but it was all new moves. They all asked me how I was able to keep up. Even when our mile run came up gym teacher was shocked 2 c I was the 10th girl 2 finish out of 28 students and I was the largest 1 in class. I haven't thought about that since I was school. Thank u for all ur help.
