New girl in town..........stopping by to say hi!

Post by Bratts »

Just thought I'd stop by an say hi, intro myself and check out the locals! :)

name is Lisa, I live in Schaumburg, married, kids, love to work out, go boating, do anything water related, addicted to coffee (but limit myself), love physical activity, and love life.

I work out 2-4 times a week depending on schedule, workouts include tennis, the gym (this is norm), walking, Wii Fit (yes!), stationary bike and, in a crunch, DVD's. :) I am studying for ACE. I am working on toning right now. I have big thighs, and I have accepted that! LOL

I look forward to chatting!

Well if I eat large meals like that, I'd want to burn some off too  wink:

Doesn't matter about your spelling mate, we are not the grammar police here :P. It's awlays good to have people here that respect us and what we do.

Hi Lisa. You can see that you've been really looking after yourself. I'm not quoting age here, but I've seen people your age, that don't look that good. You look like the sort of person who gets better with age, and I hope you can achieve what you're trying to do.

If you put as much effort into yourself as it seems, you'll be a great PT, because people who care for themselve,s generally care for others a lot too.

So good luck, and welcome.

Thanks Cassie! And Andy, too funny! Welcome to you too!

And thanks Boss Man! I'll have to get some pics up (which should be easy since I am a picture whore! LOL). I was checking out a few sites to see which one I might like and the peeps here seemed great. It was an easy choice! I def believe in taking care of myself, inside and out.....and others! Along with getting ACE I plan on going back to school for Bachelors (Biomedical Science). I am starting with Health Education and then will transfer. But, husband just started a few months ago on his Masters so we are trying to decide if our family can handle it all! :)

And thanks for the compliment...although in mind I will never be older than 20! And love for adventure proves that........there is not one thing I will not try, o.k., except maybe bungee jumping!

I look forward to learning a lot and making some "fitness" friends, IRL friends lack a lot of physical activity!

Lisa,

Michele (boopster) and I are also currently working on getting our ACE certifications. How far along are you on the studying? I've had book for 7 years now and still haven't taken the darn test. I need to get motivated and start studying a little harder. :)

Thanks Michelle and Ironwill!

Awesome, so Cassie and Michelle, you girls are studying too? Fantastic! studying is going o.k. I have had materials for a while, but decided to go back to school for Web Design Certification, so I put it on the back burner ( husband and I own a Web design/IT consulting business on the side). Now I have been studying again for the last few months. I was stuck on a chapter so I skipped it and moved to the next few chapters. I figured it would be better to move forward and then go back to that chapter later. I googled some videos and that seems to help. I also recieved a great ACE study sheet from some guy from an ACE forum. He requested that no one he sends it to forwards it, but I would be more than happy to give you girls his email. I do not think he has ever said no to anyone. I literally sent an email that said "Hi, I would love a copy of your study sheet" and he sent it.

Well I am a great motivator! I belong to a private forum with 47 girlfriends and I am known as the "cheerleader"! LOL Maybe we can do a weekly check in with our study progress so we feel like we are being held accountable and that will get our butts moving? :) Otherwise maybe a Goto meeting once a week to study together. Let me know if you are interested. :) Oh, and if you want that guys email address!

As for being stuck on that one chapter... Let me guess.. It was one of the first 3 chapters? I finally gave up on those and moved on to Chapter 4 (nutrition). Those first 3 chapters were so hard I decided to go back and learn those last as I just knew that I would forget it all when it came time to take the test. I was talking to a friend the other day and she told me not to worry too much about the anatomy stuff as the test didn't have very many questions on that stuff. That was a while ago though so not sure if it has changed since then?

Ohhh I would LOVE to have that study sheet if youre sure he doesn't mind sharing. :)

As for the weekly check... that sounds great! However, I can't make any promises to make consistent progress as life is insane right now so the studying kind of has to take a backseat to everything else. I'm planning on really getting serious about it this fall/winter when things start to slow down a bit.

I'm glad you found our site Bratts! You're gonna fit right in here! :)

Thanks Cassie...I already feel at home! :)

I am sure he won't mind. Like I said, I sent an email saying "hey can you send it to me?" and he did! :) I'll PM you his email addy! It does not print correctly (it is in excel) so let me know if you need help. I had buddy Art, who is an excel guru, set it up for me for printing.

And no pressure to study! Just a little nugding LOL! ::wink wink:: And as soon as you are ready to jump in more (even if it's Fall), let me know, we can figure out some weekly studying! :)

If you have trouble getting used to certain anatomical stuff, then try doing what I've done in the past.

Go on Google images, and find a good quality well sized image of something like a Sartorious muscle or something like that, or maybe a couple of quality images on different sites, and then you have a visual aid or aids, to help you memorise the thing in question.

Then if you have access to some kind of data storage thing, in case the spreadsheet app on Microsoft works, then you can categorise the info, by name and description / function.

That way you can use it as a referance guide, as you will have translated what you did, into your own words.
