Just starting out

Post by mrkrsll »

Ok so ive been working out with a friend for some time now at his house. I would now like to start looking into buying some of own equipment. Im having a bit of a problem with choosing a bench. Could anyone give me tips on this please. Aother question....can I get the same results doing dumbbell presses as opposed to doing barbell presses (bench press). This is a question that is keepingme stuck with buying the right bench!

i think that both dumbell and barbell bench are effective as long as your making sure the exercise is intense, but for workouts like benching, you will probably need a spotter so you dont get hurt

Barbell Bench Press, would work better with a spotter. Dumbell Bench press, not as necessary, as dropping a dumbbell would most likely result on it ending up on the floor not yourself.

Though you could use one in that instance, if you felt you needed some extra support, should you have a problem. I don't use a spotter for DB Benching, but you might find it helps psychologically for you.

I would say for now, try finding a thread about "Buying Equipment", made by a poster called "MM" I think, the reccomendations myself and others made for her, will be fine for you at the minute.
