Concerns about how body is going to look after weightloss
Hey
name is Summer and I've got a bunch of weight to lose (about 150 pounds) but I am having some hang ups...
I am really concerned about skin...
Will it stretch back or will I have to get it removed?
Because you watch shows like the Biggest Loser and you look at the extreme weightloss they go through and I wonder if they get surgery afterwards because they look like they were never overweight!
And will I ever have nice even skin? PLEASE HELP

Loose skin isn't Fat. Loose skin is the result of too much stratching, possibly compromising the elasticity of the Collagen.
In your case Summer, you could possibly get away with 3lbs of weight loss a week, for the next few weeks at least, and be okay, in your case Bonnie, I'd aim for 2lbs a week.
I would be aware though Summer, that owing to your weight, loose skin may be enevitable, as it might not resurface properly, if it's already been stretched too much, but please don't take that negatively, as it's still early days, and nothing should put off your goals right now.
Good luck to both of you, and try not to be too concerned about this sort of thing yeah

I believe I read somewhere that age is also a factor in the equation. I believe the younger you are the more elastic your skin. Which means if you lose weight when you are younger there is a greater chance that your skin will bounce back. However, the amount of weight lost is also a huge factor. I believe there is a point where no matter how young you are if you're skin has become overly stretched it really can't bounce back to "normal". I say do you best, work hard, and really try to lose that weight as your quality of life with increase dramatically when you get back to a healthy weight. Worry about the whole stretched out skin thing down the road. Even if you do have some stretched out skin, that is totally fixable and shouldn't prevent you from wanting to get back to healthy weight.

Yes, age effects elasticity of skin. It may be down to reduced levels of Collagen, as Collagen production and use can be aided by Vitamin C, and also Copper.
So logically if someones metabolism starts slowing down and the body cannot process as much of these things, it could create a knock-on effect, to levels of Collagen in someones skin, and possibly Bones and Teeth as well.

It is not how much to workout to lose 3 pounds a week, but how much and what you are eating. Working out is a helper and a shaper, and has all kinds of benefits, but losing weight is 80% diet.
I do weights 3X a week and intense cardio 3X, but the diet is key. I try to get about 1600 calories a day, and I try not to eat any starchy carbs within 4 hours of bedtime. Your milage may vary and your calorie count will be different than mine.
As for loose skin, I am 38 and, so far, have lost almost 60 pounds and I do not have loose skin. The biggest loser people, drop so much weight so quickly, skin has no time keep up. The same thing happens to those people with the stomach stapling. At 20 years old, go slow and steady, you will drop the weight, your skin with firm up nicely, and you will look fantastic.

The diet part is quite a challenge for me... I think its because I feel overwhelmed. But that is no excuse I guess, I'm going to have to start eating right and thats that! I want to be fit and healthy and eating a huge plate of nachos isnt part of the plan. It just has to get done. Thanks everyone
I feel so motivated and encouraged!

One thing that I always tell myself when i'm craving junk foods is that "nothing tastes as good as being fit feels". If you have to tell yourself that over and over and over again then do so! Those nachos may be giving you temporary satisifaction, but are ulimately only going to make you feel 10 times worse in the long run. YOU have the ability to choose everything that you eat. As you said, no excuses! And, when you are craving nachos get creative and find a recipe similar to nachos that will help with your cravings.
For instance... take a few low carb whole grain high fiber tortillas.. slice them up into chip sized triangles and bake them until light brown and crisp. I'm not sure what you like on your nachos but you could brown some lean ground beef, then throw in some black beans and salsa and cook until done (you can also use refried black beans.. they are awesome!). Next, cut up some onions, olives, avacado, tomatoes... and whatever else you like on your nachos. Throw on some fat free or low fat cheese and top with all of the topping and you have yourself some healthy nachos.
Hope this helps,
Cassie

what I found that works for me, and again, your milage may vary, is that I eat 4-5 meals a day. Each meal is between 275 and 350 calories each and I eat every 3-4 hours. If I were just weight training seriously, I might eat every 2:30 - 3 hours. So I have this schedule 7am 11am 3 pm and 7 pm and if I am up I will have a 100 - 150 calorie snack at 10:30 or 11. I do not eat starchy carbs at 7PM or later meals. I eat breakfast weather I am hungry or not. If I don't I will overeat at night, not at lunch mind you, but later, weird I know. I found that with schedule, I am not hungry between meals, unless I ate crappy food.
best breakfast is 1 slice of Ezekiel bread toasted, pat of butter spread on the toast or jelly if you prefer, 1 egg with 1 egg white scrambled, 2 slices of nitrate free bacon, and a piece of fruit like a peach or handful of fresh berries.
