Cardio Training when you can't run

Post by geoalehay »

What effective cardio training can be done to maintain fitness when you can't run either due to injury or any other reason?

If your body can handle it use an Exercise Bike, or go swimming.

I recommend an elliptical machine if u have access to one. work ur way from 15 mins a day and add about 5 mins a week untill u get to 30 mins. there's less strain on ur joints as well as ur heels and feet. i usually have problems with too much pressure on the heels of feet. this machine helped me lose 25 lbs. in a month. of course diet was involved but i could also notice the reduction in body fat as well as a tone look.

A fairly good option, the only issue there is the upper body is still bearign weight on the lower body.

If you can handle it g-hay, then it can be an option, but if it does cause any possible knee issues, I'd not do it, incase it hinders recovery, as Swimming and E B work, shouldn't directly load Torso weight onto the Knees.

Not questioning that, but in your opinion, owing to the way Rowing causes quite significant flexion of the Knee area, from a Bent to an almost locked out position, wouldn't it be likely to aggrevate or impeded healing of any injuries around the area?

I ask as you may have tried this kind of thing in such a situation, and I haven't. Personally I would err on the side of injury aggrevation / impedence of healing, in own mind, but you may feel differently, and I will respect that :).
