Just curious about something...
If I can run about 1.25 miles without stopping. What's an estimate time frame (if I run/cardio Tues, Thurs, Sat) that I will get to 3.0 miles?
I start the academy in about 3 or so weeks. I want to get to at LEAST 2 miles. Since we're required to run 3 miles Mon, Wed, Fri.
How long does progress take?

Depends on your stride. Treadmills are different than pavement running and outside you are dealing with elements of weather, inside you have the propelling of the treadmill pushing you along. I can usually run 3 miles in 25 minutes on treadmill. Outside I'm closer to 30 minutes which ends up being a 10 minute mile. Best way for you to find out is time it yourself and track the progress you make in the coming weeks. Good luck!

When I first started running about four months ago it took me almost 16 minutes to get in a mile. Now, I can do six in under an hour. Four without stopping in a little over 34 minutes.
That's four and sometimes five days a week. It won't take that long.
Six weeks (from the inception of your training session) should achieve 50% or so of your capacity. The second 6 weeks will get you to 75% or so; the third 6 week period will get you to 90% or so. After that the improvements are much smaller.
Note: don't take the percentages literally; they are only meant to show the progression.
I would think that 6 weeks total will be sufficient to achieve your goal of 2 miles. What is your training (running only) schedule look like?
