Splitting up sets??

Post by jtheissen »

When doing a weight-lifting circuit, is it OK to do one set on a machine, then go to another machine for a single set, etc. and then do three circuits, OR should you do all your sets of a single machine in succession?

I recently met with a trainer who told me it was OK to split them up. This is great, as it is much less exhausting on muscles, but I worry that I'm not getting the same benefit. . .

Any thoughts?

it's better as the target muscle gets more rest even though the body doesn't which allows for heavier wt...try alternating opposite muscles such as chest and back, tris and bis, quads and hams...this floods the muscles with blood giving pumped feeling and localises it also as the muscles are in the same area...if going for muscle building do that way...if going for fat loss alternate upper and lower body exercises for peripherel heart action where the blood needs to go from upper body to lower body thus using more calories etc...make sure though that you are using the heaviest lifts you can with multi joint exercises

Go thru the whole circuit then repeat again. It gives the workng muscles the rest they need and it'll keep your heart rate up which should be the goal of circuit training. Good luck!
