I suspect a typo. A 20g protein drink would be fairly normal. A 200g protein drink would be hard to find.

Did you say you're working out for two hours a day? That is way too much.

Look, if you want to put on mass and build muscle, if you have a high metabolism, you need to take in a lot of calories. How much is really dependent on the individual, but lots of lifters I know who have high metabolism need to take in at least 4-5,000 calories a day to make good muscle gains (at least more quickly, you can probably do a slow bulk with slightly less).

Whoever said your body can't process more than 40G of protein sounds incorrect. Most of the reading I've done suggests 1G of protein per pound of body weight, which would be 100G per day.

Don't let other people tell you you're fine where you're at if you want to change your body....if 100lbs is too thin for you, start eating a lot of calories, get a good lifting routine, and don't do too much cardio...that'll destroy your muscles.

Cardio will not destroy muscles. It may use up so many calories that it will be difficult to gain weight. But there is no chance that cardio will destroy muscles.

I've long been an advocate of having at least one very, very long workout every few weeks. It builds in a level of mental toughness that you cannot get from short workouts. I have a 3-4 hour workout every three weeks.

Mental toughness will not get you big muscles, but will give you "gumption", or the "can-do" attitude. It will teach you not to quit.

As for gaining weight, it is a simple matter of taking in more calories than you use up. You need to eat calorie-rich foods, (Haagen Daz works for me) and not just the high-protein low fat foods that most body builders take in.

Just like small children really need whole milk to take in enough calories, someone with a very high metabolism rate like yours needs to take in calorie-rich foods--probably foods with high fat contents too.

Hey Pack,

You're right, I don't want to stand behind that statement because I can't find any peer reviewed articles or journals that support that.

It would have been more accurate to say that doing cardio is going to burn more calories obviously, and if her goal is to gain muscle and put on some weight, this would be counter-productive.

Thanks for correcting me on that.
