Got books! Got the drive! Got the determination! And....I think I may even have a job;) With some help from Cassie, leading me in the right direction, I have decided to become ACE certified as a personal trainer and hopefully have a part time job at local gym. After speaking to our fitness director and finding out that NONE of the trainers at the gym are ACE certified, (I was puzzled by that) but also it explained a lot too after experinceing a gym that had them. The difference between trainers was amazing. It will probably take me about 5 months to get through all the material and study to pass the exam, but with medical background it shouldn't be all that taxing. I just figured, every time I go to the gym, someone asks me questions about how to get fit and what they should be doing. I enjoy helping others so why not give it whirl! You all know I love a challenge. Thanks to all of you who have supported all endeavors! You truly are an amazing group of people 

Hi Michelle! Congrats on making this decision! I too was thinking about doing the same thing, pretty much for the same reasons - I think it's a way to keep me on task for the long haul as well. I'll be essentially retired 7/1 but will be looking for something to do with new found free time and I'm addicted to this exercise stuff
What's the difference between ACE and other programs? Do you have the link for the one you are talking about? Cassie - please feel free to send me your thoughts here or in PM.

Yay!!! Good for you girl! I've been working on mine lately too but the motivation seems to come and go with me. You're going to be a wonderful personal trainer!! Go to http://www.acefitness.org/. All the information you need is on the website. They have on-line reps to assist you also. I choose ACE certified due to their reputation and from Cassie's thumbs up. Plus they hold you responsible for keeping up with continuing education which is so important because the changes that occur in physical fitness and programs offered. It's a great way to keep abreast of all the current stuff happening in the fitness world. Co-training is a great idea!

Yep! Got the whole shabang....Premier addition. Cost me $400.00 but I believe it was worth it when I started to study this past weekend. Lots of material but it's well organized and easy to follow. How's your training going by the way? I hope well as I do think about how much that diet SUCKED! The only thing holding me back from competing this year was $$$. It's so costly! But we've been through all that in PM's. Anyway hope you okay.

Interesting that certification is not compulsory where you live. In Australia, you need to have completed a government approved course in order to get personal liability insurance which local government councils require before they will let you use open space, parks and beaches to train your groups in. The exception is if you only train up to three persons at a time. The regulations in gyms vary a bit however.
Still the insurance business has gone too far really. Whatever happened to taking personal responsibility for ones own actions? Considering how tough our Boot Camp sessions are, we have very few injuries. Perhaps because most participants also have solid weights workouts and do some form of martial arts. We have a large number of Muay Thai kickboxers, more female than males and a number have been to training camps in Thailand.

The training is going well. You're right, the diet is definitely a challenge. I feel like i'm about to grow wings with how much chicken breast and eggwhites i've been eating! I've been having to force myself to eat lately which is kinda hard. Its funny that I reallly don't crave any food right now. I'm pretty much eating for energy and survival than for enjoyment at this point. I'm sure you know all about that feeling! :)

Hi Cassie, you're probably already aware that high intensity training in any sport temporarily depresses the appetite-control center in the brain.
If you can drink a carb/protein shake within 30 mins of finishing your session, the carb content will help replenish glycogen stores in the muscles while the protein will go towards repairing soft tissue micro tears.
The ideal ratio is 3 parts carb to 1 part of protein because at this time, the carbohydrate replenishment is more important than the protein component.
Over here in Oz, the Sanitarium Health Food Co make a 250ml tetra pack called "Up and Go" which is ideal for this purpose.
All the best with your masochistic regime

Yes, I have been drinking a shake RIGHT after finishing workout. It is understanding that protein is actually MOST important right after lifting to get protein to the muscles to help them begin recovery. I typically drink protein then wait 15 minutes or so and eat a combination of simple and complex carbs... or (usually) complex carbs only. I've read that simple carbs (other than fruit.. although some articles do suggest high glucose/ high GI fruits right after workout out) are best after workouts, however i do prefer complex carbs so have been doing this and seeing how it goes.
As for lack of appetite, I believe it mostly has to do with the fact that I really don't care for most of the foods that I've been eating for the past month so don't really look forward to eating them too much. As I said, I'm eating for nutrition instead of taste right now. We'll see how it goes!
