I had an excellent Leg workout this morning which was great! Unfortunately I'm on "looking after the children" duty today and therefore had to push them both to nursery which is a mile up a steep hill using a heavy off-road buggy. I can normal virtually jog this but after only one hour since set I nearly had to ask an old lady for help as she overtook me!
As I'm sure most of you can appreciate it's hard enough just to walk up the stairs after a good leg set.
Anyway I'm still making good gains in strength which is a little surprising this far into cut. I am definitely going to have to upgrade all home gym equipment when I'm done. When I first bought current set up I clearly remember thinking that this would last me for the rest of days but I'm already looking to max out on some of the recommended load levels. In fairness it was all quite cheap and cheerful but I still thought it would all last a lifetime.
At this stage the plan is to try and put on just a little more muscle once I hit 8%. At that point I'm going to take a week off from all training (apart from basic stretching) and then, eating clean as always, and starting in at approx 2,000 calories a day, continue with training.
I'd like to put on ONLY 2lbs a month or around 0.5lbs a week. If this doesn't happen on 2000 calories, if I put on too much weight or if I put on too little, I'll make incremental adjustments accordingly.
Until tomorrow!

I know! I thought that myself last year but I just kept getting stronger!ldematto wrote:It's hard to believe that continuing to lose weight at 10% BF that you aren't just losing muscle.
This year I was only expecting to maintain muscle mass but as I've just said in journal - I still keep getting stronger!
10% was original goal last year but as I just continued to gain strength and endurance levels - I just kept cutting!

Just thought you might be interested in these articles...The question of whether or not I am, or already have, messed up metabolism is a good question. I have no idea! Does anyone know the smyptoms of someone who does? Is it possible to mess it up forever??

Just read both - thanks. I totally agree with everything they say - unless I missed something rather obvious!?!
It's by following this sort of advice that has allowed me to finally loose body fat - eating small healthy meals spread out across the day, focussing on weights and cardio... ect. I think the only issue people have here is the actual amount of calories I'm taking - not how I'm taking them, what I'm eating or the sort of excerise I'm doing.
It's good to have this sort of information reinforced though.
The articles mentioned not to under eat… But from your previous post you will up your calories to 2,000… so that’s totally better than 1,200.
As for people in here… they bring up issues when something is not right or unhealthy for you. It’s all because they care and are concern about your health. Advices in there are not only FREE but it’s very sincere and genuine… that’s what makes this community great!

Yep. As stated we're not here to shoot at you for what you're doing, but when something seems amiss, it's only right we respond in kind, as to act like some peoples potentially unhealthy admissions are okay, may long-term hurt the individual.
If I misinterpreted your comments about the Vitamins, then I'll appoogise.
However the caloric intake you have been on, even though it seems to be working for you, would still be giving you less Macronutrient sustinance than you could have had, and looking leaner and feeling stronger, are not necessarily indicators all is okay, if there are potential issues with Bones, Cholesterol, Iron levels in the Blood, Immune health, Erythrocyte, (Red Blood Cell), levels etc etc.
So that's the main ethos of some of what I wrote. I'm not here to look like some big I am, or to make you look like a miusguided fool, who believes any old crap, as I believe you're not that sort of person, as some of your admissions testify to.
So I will wish you well, and I hope that in time, you can achieve what you want. End of the day it's not about making the individual feel bad, stupid wrong, or small, it's about doing what feels best, to help put the individual in the right situation, to eventually get what they deserve, and also in some cases to stop people unknowingly self harming, through hurtful eating methods.

you'll need to gradually work up to 200cal's too if you weren't planning to already

I really do appreciate this post - thanks Boss Man. I am a very careful and exact individual and I cetainly would have done or would do somthing different if I had felt any - even the slightest - malady.Boss Man wrote:Yep. Over what period of time??
maybe increase 100cal's week or something...it's more about how you reintroduce carbs though
also you might have to think about actually purposefully maintaining your body once you get there...the body doesn' t want to go down to 8% lewt alone stay there so you have to make it
this is another eeason why your such low cals is an ordinary idea...toa mintain it you'll have to keep eating that little amount of cal's doing further and more then likely long term damage to your metabolism

Well wife is off on a business trip to Japan for the best part of two weeks so I'll be here looking after two boys... on own!
This has raised a few more questions / problems for me to sort out regarding training and diet routine. Firstly training; it won't be easy but I'll have to do the best I can. I won't be able to go for normal morning run as I can't leave them alone in the house, so I'll have to put together some sort of weighted step routine. Secondly I am going to be disturbed during training time, which these days is between 7am - 7.45am. They can rarely be alone together for more than half an hour before attempting to remove each others limbs for want of a toy something.
I'm also thinking about upping calorie intake during this time. There is no way I use the same calories sitting behind a desk for 12 hours a day as I do running after two boys!
But if I can't do normal focussed training then maybe calories should remain the same!
I guess this is called "life getting in the way... again!" and why I go on an on about the importance of an established routine.
This all reminded me of another on-going problem I've always had and always will have regarding diet. evening meal!
I know from experience that wife will leave me a series of nearly ready prepared food for the duration - you know I used to cook all own food for years and years - which will be great. But it reminded me that I really have absolutely no idea how many calories I consume for evening meal. I didn't know when I cut last year and I have no idea today.
I think this is the biggest strength and biggest weakness to diet. I see it as a strength because of the healthy variety of food I eat - she rarely makes the same dish twice - but it's a massive weakness because I have no real control over daily calorie intake AND it's always too much food in one hit too late in the day for me... if it were choice AND the time varies when I eat the food anywhere between 7.30pm to 9pm.
So what I do is guesstimate the calories!
When I'm cutting she tries to gives me smaller portions and I guesstimate this to be 500 calories.
When I'm not cutting she gives me larger so I guesstimate this to be 600.
But honestly it could be anywhere between 400 to 1000. I really have no idea!
It really wound me up last year but I've come to accept it now. It's strange that I know exact calorie intake during from 7am - 7pm and exactly when I'm going to eat that food but after 7pm it's all taken completely out of hands.
Anyway, I may well not increase calorie intake when she leaves... or maybe I will!?!
It's at times like these, especially when combined with thoughts laid out in yesterdays journal, when a cutting program stands on a knife edge!
Until tomorrow!
P.S. I had a good 4 mile ran this morning and feel very much back to normal again.

Well you'll be pleased to hear (or not - depending on how you feel about current goal) that I'm feeling a lot more positive about 2009 cut.
I came to the conclusion last night that, when I reach 8% again this year, I'm probably never going to look like that ever again!
As I'm now so close to re-gained that look, one last time, I know I would regret it if I did stop now. I would definitely feel that I whimped out of a commitment I made to myself way back in 2008.
With that in mind I've done some more very minor tweaking to diet in an attempt to eliminate every ounce of processed sugar from diet and with re-renewed determination I will carry on.
The decision was also helped by the Body Fat reading on scales going down another 1% this morning although weight remained the same. This does NOT mean that I'm announcing that I've lost another 1%. It is only one measure of two that I use but I see it as a good sign that I am managing to still loose body fat whilst making some gains in muscle density.
I had an easy fasted cardio 4 mile run this morning with no aches or pains and a very strong sprint to finish.
I'm feeling good!
Until tomorrow!
