Thanks for posting again Troy! I really appreciate it.
You're right of course, a 3 day carb up is a very short term . If I did it every day do you think it would become a long term solution?
plan for maintaining metabolism whilst cutting is a little more complicated than stuffing face once a month. In a nutshell here's what I've been doing:
Spreading calorie intake as evenly as possible across 7 meals a day.
Eating a squeaky clean, high protein, low saturated fat diet.
Lifting a gradually increasing amount of weight four days a week.
Lifting on each muscle group only once a week.
Gradually increasing aerobic training from a starting point of one day a week (back in April when I first started), to two days and now up to 3 days a week.
Gradually increasing the distance I run on those aerobic days.
Reducing calorie intake by about 50 calories a day every two weeks.
Carbing up at the end of each month.
I had a very sucessful cut last year going from a very fat 146lbs with 16% body fat down to 122lbs and 8% body fat following this exact same diet and training plan.
I don't seem to be able to upload any more pics on this website but you can view the full animation of 2008 transformation along with current pic on the following website page

As I said before I am very small for a guy so the calorie intake for someone of size looking to go sub 10% body fat isn't far off the recommended 10 x "Your Body Weight" in pounds.
I didn't mention last time that I'm now 40 years old and unfortunately metabolism isn't running as high as it was when I was 20, so I have to use every trick in the book to achieve sub 10% BF whilst maintaining current muscle mass.
Thanks again Troy - I hope all this helps to explain current cutting plan and thought process.
Today's Journal
Weight:

Daily calorie intake approx:
2000 calories over 7 meals a day
Current Body fat percentage reading:
10%
Training Phase (temporary):
Maintenance
Weighed in today at 130lbs
I really hate being ill!
It's even worse when I've told everyone in this journal how incredibly amazing I am because family got really ill but I survived. Well after updating journal yesterday it hit with the full force of a nuclear sneeze. The slight illness I had been entertaining for the last few days turned out the be just the appetizer and I now have head fully submerged in the main course.
Am I feeling a little conceited... arrogant even?
Well yes!
I'm definitely not even thinking about going for a run this morning and am back on maintenance diet until I recover. I guess the real test will be how long this will keep me out of the gym for. Typically it's around a week but I am really hoping that it won't be that long this time around. In fairness I am already feeling much better than yesterday so I'll see how a Chest & Tricep workout looks tomorrow morning.
Until then!
