Trouble jump roping

Post by LBC_ORIGINAL »

whenever I try to jump rope, I can only maintain it for only a couple of minutes tops. I've read that jump roping is a great cardio excercise as it uses your full body. When I jump rope, even at a normal pace, calves start to burn like crazy and I can't take it anymore. question is, does it just take some getting used to? will I if I do it consistently be able to do it for longer periods of time? say 20-30 minutes? A lot of forums I've read regarding how long to jump rope usually suggest 20-30 minutes. To me that's unheard of to be able to keep doing it. Do I just need to break calves in or what?

yeah 20 - 30mins of skipping is not only a bit silly but boring as shit...there's no rule saying you have to go that long

Honestly, I wouldn't mind jump roping that long (20-30 min) question is, calves burn after a couple minutes alone. Do I just have to jump through the burn? do I just become accustomed to it after a few minutes?

Build up your times gradually. Try adding 2 or 3 minutes to your training sessions each week.

In 8 or 10 weeks you should be up to 20 minutes.

Also, your body will become more efficient at this exercise as you continue to practice and it will become easier.

Boxers do this for extended periods of time, but they have learned by practice to jump just high enough to clear the rope. Once you get your timing right you will learn to jump less high and this will get easier.

yeh i can vouch for this, all it takes is practice.

make sure to stretch prior and after exercise.

I jump rope every week, when i first started i was jumping way to high (It helps if u jump rope in front of a mirror or something reflective) now ive been doin it for a while feet just about leave the ground and i can peform HIIT wth the rope,

It jus takes practice
