Benefits of HIIT cardio over 'normal' cardio

Post by Bigboi118 »

What are the benifits of HIIT over normal Cardio? I understand that with HIIT you burn more cals in a shorter space of time but what are the other benifits?

2 days a week i do cardio where, for example id use an exercise bike for 40 or so mins with ever increasing resistance, to keep the heart rate up.
And then do 1 day HIIT on the weekend.

Is the benefits just time saving?

HIIT increases EPOC (energy post oxygen consumption) which is basically metabolism...steady state cardio doesn't

steady state will burn more cal's WHILE YOU DO IT but hiit will burn 9 x more cal's overall

So HIIT increases metabolism which in turn makes your body burn off cals for the rest of the day?

Steady state cardio, isnt that just at the same pace? on non HIIT cardio days i make sure to raise intensity for example

Ex. bike

2 mins lvl 1
2 mins lvl 2
2 mins lvl 3
2 mins lvl 4
2 mins lvl 5
5 mins lvl 6
5 mins lvl 7
5 mins lvl 8
5 mins lvl 9
5 mins lvl 10 (max)
2 mins lvl 9
2 mins lvl 8
2 mins lvl 7
2 mins lvl 6
2 mins lvl 5
2 mins lvl 4
2 mins lvl 3
2 mins lvl 2
2 mins lvl 1

Would that be considered Steady state?

for me, I make sure to eat less cals on cardio days, im still trying to bulk up on weight days, I think i should only do 1 HIIT a week, im still quite lean and trying to bulk up and as you say HIIT majorly burns the cals, i dont really want that to happen.

yours is half and half i suppose...the first part is probably easy and the second half is hard...true HIIT is alternating bouts of 50% intensity with 90 - 100% intensity

HIIT also promote muscle growth.

Tough, if on a moderate/low calories diet, it can be hard on your CNS to recover.

But you know that sets of heavy deads is HIIT too ?

The therm cardio is overused and not needed for fat lost.
